Marina was my direct supervisor while I was a graduate assistant for the International Students and Scholars Office at Iowa State University, and she is one of the best supervisors I've ever had. Marina assigns you tasks and then let's you work on them without being micromanaged. She trusts you to complete the work she gives you, and she is very open with her communication, always having an open door policy, where you are free to voice your opinions and ideas. It was enjoyable having a supervisor who saw me as more like a colleague instead of a subordinate. I always knew I could come to her and my ideas would be taken seriously. I worked with Marina to revamp the curriculum for an orientation course for international students, where it was a pleasure learning from her in-depth pedagogical knowledge. Additionally, I worked with Marina in the classroom where she challenges her students because she knows what they are capable of achieving. Like her open door policy in work, she allows her students to come to her whenever they need assistance and she is always more than willing to work with students on questions they may have or in areas they need additional assistance. She is an extremely fair educator and sets high standards for her students, but scaffolds the learning to ensure every student, with the right work ethic, can reach their desired goals.

Marina has a wonderful rapport with the people of all ages, especially college students. Her greatest asset is her creativity, as she always made sure to engage me in the learning process in unique ways. Every lesson was fun and helped me to learn new material easily. Marina has a truly unique ability to connect with students from the first lesson. She had been very patient in dealing with my learning difficulties, and always answered questions professionally. While studying with Marina, I learnt that she is a team player who is always willing to address my needs. She is very detail oriented and can aptly manage overseeing individual performance. She is extremely organized , reliable and flexible to work with.

Marina is a highly dedicated, result-oriented language instructor who invests the best of her time and energy into finding an individualized approach to every student. In particular, she is very flexible and carefully considers each student’s language learning needs while developing her lessons and activities. As a result, her lessons and language materials are creative, interactive, very well designed, and are tailored to different students’ language levels and needs. Additionally, she carefully considers each student’s cultural background while developing her materials to ensure her lessons are culture-sensitive, and, at the same time, help students explore and navigate the unique cultural and social characteristics of different English-speaking countries. On a personal level, Marina is very sociable, relatable, and accommodating. Her high energy, motivation and passion for teaching help students feel comfortable and eager to learn during her lessons. Being a bilingual herself, she is well aware of what difficulties language learners face and, leading by example, she helps students overcome those fears and view language learning as an exciting journey rather than a challenge.
