Experienced at teaching Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Russian
If you are looking for a Russian teacher who will help you to master the language, and introduce you to the world of Russian literature, culture and history, you found one! I have more than 10 years teaching experience and enjoy working with the students of all ages.
I hold PhD from Moscow State Pedagogic University and Master's degree from Iowa State University, and have extensive experience teaching in Russia and in the United States. I have taught students of various ages and with different language skills, and enjoy working with children, school and college students, and working professionals. During the past ten years, I have worked with individual clients, small groups and led lectures fro 150+ students.
My students can expect to improve week to week in their speaking and listening skills. Every student is unique and I spend considerable amount of time developing my lessons to make sure I meet individual needs and help my students understand Russian grammar, and start speaking after their first lesson. I teach students to understand and successfully interpret Russian culture and feel confident talking to native Russian speakers. I involve a variety of resources, such as video and audio materials including TV and radio shows, popular movies, traditional and modern Russian songs and a various reading materials. I can help any student to speak freely and understand native Russian speakers no matter what their native language is.

I strongly believe that staying updated about current research in the filed of language studies is critical for successful professional career. I regularly go to professional conferences for foreign language instructors to network with the colleagues nationwide and internationally and learn about latest research in the field of language studies. Since 2016, I have presented at three state and 4 national conferences and competed five research papers that summarize my experience.

My personal passion is contemporary Russian culture, art and music specifically. Marina was my direct supervisor while I was a graduate assistant for the International Students and Scholars Office at Iowa State University, and she is one of the best supervisors I've ever had. Marina assigns you tasks and then let's you work on them without being micromanaged. She trusts you to complete the work she gives you, and she is very open with her communication, always having an open door policy, where you are free to voice your opinions and ideas. It was enjoyable having a supervisor who saw me as more like a colleague instead of a subordinate. I always knew I could come to her and my ideas would be taken seriously. I worked with Marina to revamp the curriculum for an orientation course for international students, where it was a pleasure learning from her in-depth pedagogical knowledge. Additionally, I worked with Marina in the classroom where she challenges her students because she knows what they are capable of achieving. Like her open door policy in work, she allows her students to come to her whenever they need assistance and she is always more than willing to work with students on questions they may have or in areas they need additional assistance. She is an extremely fair educator and sets high standards for her students, but scaffolds the learning to ensure every student, with the right work ethic, can reach their desired goals.

Marina has a wonderful rapport with the people of all ages, especially college students. Her greatest asset is her creativity, as she always made sure to engage me in the learning process in unique ways. Every lesson was fun and helped me to learn new material easily. Marina has a truly unique ability to connect with students from the first lesson. She had been very patient in dealing with my learning difficulties, and always answered questions professionally. While studying with Marina, I learnt that she is a team player who is always willing to address my needs. She is very detail oriented and can aptly manage overseeing individual performance. She is extremely organized , reliable and flexible to work with.

Marina is a highly dedicated, result-oriented language instructor who invests the best of her time and energy into finding an individualized approach to every student. In particular, she is very flexible and carefully considers each student’s language learning needs while developing her lessons and activities. As a result, her lessons and language materials are creative, interactive, very well designed, and are tailored to different students’ language levels and needs. Additionally, she carefully considers each student’s cultural background while developing her materials to ensure her lessons are culture-sensitive, and, at the same time, help students explore and navigate the unique cultural and social characteristics of different English-speaking countries.
On a personal level, Marina is very sociable, relatable, and accommodating. Her high energy, motivation and passion for teaching help students feel comfortable and eager to learn during her lessons. Being a bilingual herself, she is well aware of what difficulties language learners face and, leading by example, she helps students overcome those fears and view language learning as an exciting journey rather than a challenge.

Marina is an awesome teacher. She always came to class enthusiastically about her job, and fascinated me with fun conversations and games. I enjoyed the interactive learning materials that she prepared specifically for me, and didn't felt like I had to learn at all. Marina also cared about my progress after every lesson, and was very responsive in answering my questions, even after class. She also provided me with resources on Russian cultural events and movie nights that I should come to better improve my Russian. I really appreciate her help and truly enjoy practicing this language as part of my life.
