- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I earned my B.A. in music from Hood College and have studied with Elaine Bonazzi in New York and Ruth Drucker in Baltimore. I sang opera professionally in my twenties and have been teaching private voice lessons for fifteen years. Many of my students have gone on to music conservatories or universities for vocal performance (classical and musical theater), but if you are just looking to have fun singing that is great, too!
Note: for voice lessons I only teach female students
ONLINE VOICE LESSONS: I offer VOICE LESSONS ONLY online as piano does require a physical presence at the keyboard with the student. If you are interested in online voice lessons, there are some differences from a live lesson to consider:
During live lessons, I accompany my students on the piano for their songs. During online lessons, due to lag time and my need to clearly hear you during lessons in order to give solid feedback, you will need to have an audio source separate from whatever device you are using for your lesson (CD player, iPhone or ipad is fine) to play your accompaniment to sing along with. I can record the piano accompaniment to the song we are working on to send you in advance to sing along with, or we may obtain the accompaniment from another source (CD, online etc).
- Teaches students:
- Females 5+, males 5 to 30 and special needs
- Teaching since:
I earned my B.A. in music from Hood College and have been teaching private voice/piano lessons and general music in schools for the past fifteen years. I sang opera professionally in my twenties and early thirties, and have taught voice to both the young beginner who just likes to sing for fun and the serious musician preparing for a career in music. I also teach beginning - intermediate piano and particularly enjoy working with children (I am a preschool teacher by day). Thanks to my background in working with young children, I understand how to pace a lesson to keep a young child interested in sitting still on a piano bench for thirty minutes straight ;)
If you are interested in piano lessons, please have either a real piano or weighted keyboard at home for practice. You will also need to purchase a few music books (about $5 each). Voice students will need to purchase song books ($15-20) after we meet and I get a feel for the student’s range and what type of repertoire we should work on.
Note: for VOICE LESSONS ONLY I only teach female students.
Our son loved his first lesson and Marie managed his energy really well. We can’t wait to go back next week.
Marie is an excellent teacher and very nice. Her studio is private, clean, and easy to get to. My daughter always seems to enjoy her lessons.
I enjoyed my first lesson. Marie is very warm and friendly!
Marie has been absolutely wonderful with my 8 year old daughter. My daughter has tried taking piano lessons before and hated going. Marie has completely changed her attitude about piano; my daughter has progressed quickly in the last year and even enjoys practicing. I couldn't recommend a better piano teacher!Show More
Marie made me feel comfortable and was interested in hearing what kind of music I liked as a singer. I really enjoyed my first lesson!
I went to my first lesson today and Ms. Marie gave a warm welcome. She was very kind even if when I stuttered and made some mistakes here and there.
