I currently work as the Strings Teacher and Orchestra Director at the Mount Kenya Academy in Nyeri, Kenya. I teach students ages 7 to 18 in both the elementary and secondary schools on the campus.
Although I am primarily a violinist, I also teach viola and cello. I especially like working with adult learners, but am happy to teach anyone who is EXCITED about music and eager to learn!
I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Performance from the University of Massachusetts Lowell (summa cum laude) and my Master of Music in Music Education from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
I have taught music in various schools in Massachusetts, USA such as the Natick Public Schools, The Boston Latin School, and Dedham Public Schools. I have also been an adjunct faculty member at The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where I taught music theory and ear training to graduate students.
I teach private, semi-private, and group lessons on violin, viola, and cello. Currently, I teach ages 7 through 18. I also teach and conduct the MKA Junior School Orchestra (ages 10-13) and the MKA Senior School orchestra (ages 13-18).
I prepare students for the ABRSM practical exams on violin, viola, and cello as well.
I have been licensed by the state of Massachusetts (USA) to teach Music (Instrumental or Vocal, all levels).
I have always wanted to learn an instrument... Just a few sessions with Maria and Viola seems so easy to play. Her instructions are simple to follow and I hope to play my daughter her favorite songs soon.
Maria is a very talented and experienced violin instructor. Her lessons are simplified, and that makes it very easy to understand concepts and still have fun while learning.
