The Joy of Learning Cello
Want to be a creative thinker and fearless musician behind the instrument? Come take lessons! I have 10 years of teaching young children to adults, from beginners to advanced, and I am always learning. I cater each lesson to the student to optimize curiosity, learning, and fun! My extensive background in contemporary performance shaped my unique approach to the practice and musical interpretations. Students will develop a strong sense of theory and technique, listening, building a routine, improvising and sight-reading skills. There's no single way to play the cello, and together we'll find the way that works best for you!

About Maria H.
5.0
(2)
A resident of New York City, Maria Hadge is a cellist who feels equally at home with contemporary music, free improvisation, and musical theater. Her playing has taken her around the globe, working with early-career and master composers, as well as performers such as Mitski, Monica Bellucci, and Judy Collins. Recent credits include 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the New London Barn, Little Women at the Palace Theatre, Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish at Stage 42, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening, Bright Star, and Into the Woods.
As an educator, Maria has over ten years of experience and is always learning. Miss Hadge taught young children after school through Wingspan Arts, honed her virtual teaching with Sage Music, and taught cello at Molloy College as an Associate Professor. She believes that every student has the capacity to learn the instrument and together, they will discover the best way to reach their goals, emphasizing technique, routine, and creativity.
Miss Maria is a Presser Scholar and recipient of the President's Award for the Purchase College Conservatory of Music. She earned a BM with a History Minor from Purchase College, where she studied with Julia Lichten, and Miss Maria recently completed a Masters Degree in Contemporary Performance from Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Fred Sherry.
Away from the instrument, Maria enjoys boxing, crossword puzzles, board games, and reading big books about American history. Currently, she is in the middle of Ron Chernow's Washington. She also works with kids after school teaching chess, percussion, and science.
