I teach cellists of all ages and abilities and tailor the lesson to the individual. Lessons include standard repertoire, and if requested, non-traditional styles as well. I have experience with solo repertoire, orchestra, chamber music, and folk music, and can help you develop your ear and even sing while playing. I have Suzuki certification and also focus on postural alignment (I have a Pilates teaching certification). I have traveled and performed extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Australia, and can help you perform well, have great stage presence, and deal with nerves and stage fright.
Cellist and vocalist for the internationally touring, classically trained folk trio Harpeth Rising. I have performed over 500 concerts in 38 states and 10 countries with Harpeth Rising.
I managed an Airbnb on Ischia, an island in the Gulf of Naples. There are five properties, and we had a great season with guests coming from Italy, Europe, Russia, Asia, and North America.
Associate principal cellist of the NY Festival Orchestra.
I was an associate instructor to Peter Stumpf while completing my Master’s degree and taught cello to non-music major students.
I have Suzuki “Every Child Can!” certification.

Maria is a excellent teacher. Very consistent and patient, Maria was able to get me playing quickly and explains technique very well. I also enjoy being able to study with someone who has such an extensive and varied performing career!
Maria is a wonderful teacher. I really enjoyed taking lessons with her because she struck the perfect balance of challenging me and advancing my skills and understanding that as an adult you don't always have the time to practice as much.
