    About Margaret G.

    (16)
Margaret has been teaching singing for over 15 years throughout Seattle, San Jose, San Francisco, and now San Diego. She specializes in training children and adults of all ages and levels (8 years old and up) how to use, strengthen, and nurture their natural voice for any music style(s) of their choice. Her teaching style includes a mixture of classical vocal technique, voice science, sound healing, and the Somatic Voicework™ - The Lovetri Method. Margaret began her singing journey at a young age in church and in local children's choirs and theaters in the San Francisco Bay Area. She developed a strong passion for musical theater throughout childhood and adolescence, and performed regularly in a vast number of theater productions. In college, graduate school, and post study she trained strictly in operatic vocal technique and has since performed in various opera productions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, and Italy. Margaret holds a Bachelors of Music degree in Vocal Performance (Opera Emphasis) and a Bachelors of Art in Anthropology from the University of Washington (2008), a Masters of Art in Vocal Performance (Opera Emphasis) from San Jose State University (2010), and is fully certified in Somatic Voicework™ - The Lovetri Method (2014). In more recent years Margaret has switched (vocal) gears and now also focuses on CCM (contemporary commercial music) singing styles such as pop/rock and jazz. She has sung in and co-led the San Francisco based a cappella group, Vocal Edition, as well as performed at a variety of Cabaret shows and private events. Currently she substitutes with the San Diego based a cappella group, Voxy. Margaret now lives in San Diego and continues to perform and teach online and at various events in a myriad of vocal styles. She truly believes anyone has the ability to sing! *** Lesson Details *** Singing is an enjoyable and natural form of human expression. It can increase confidence, energy, improve mood, music skills, and general mind/body coordination skills. Voice lessons are tailored to the student's singing style(s) of choice. Lessons consist of breath and body work, vocal warm-ups and exercises, followed by an in-depth work on songs. These skills can help any singer become more aware of their voice and how their body works as an instrument. Lessons are conducted weekly, bi-weekly, or schedule-as-we-go, Monday through Friday online (via Zoom).

Margaret was an amazing instructor and did a great job of finding a way to explain things that made sense to my way of absorbing information. A great singer and even better teacher, glad I chose her and will be singing up for more lessons without a doubt.

Somatic Voicework™ - The LoVetri Method

    Jul, 2014

CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute of Shenandoah Convervatory

"Somatic Voicework™ The LoVetri Method is a body-based method of vocal training which draws from many disciplines. It is based upon voice science and medicine as well as traditional classical vocal training, complementary modalities such as yoga, movement, dance, acting, and speech training, and various bodywork approaches... It allows the voice and body to be partners with the mind, whether it be for song or speech, and allows the instrument to handle a variety of tasks with greater ease and less effort. It is unique in that all of the vocal exercises are focused on function... not just on how the voice sounds." This method can be applied to all styles of singing, and can also help alleviate vocal strain or fatigue.
