Mandel Music Instructor and Performer Germantown MD. Career Objective Contribute to the success and direction of dedicated musicians, of all ages and levels, by encouraging and engaging them into learning to play music, entailing the presentation of music through listening, reading sheet music, and performing alone and in group settings. Qualifications I've preformed music since age of 5, studied music from age of 26. I am a seasoned technically trained experienced musician. Talented in most styles of popular music, Jazz, Latin, Reggae, Rock, Blues. I have outstanding people skills, including strong written and oral communications. I have conceived of, pioneered and advanced theory and practice techniques in the application of "The New Intervallic Cite Reading Approach" which reduces the time it takes to learn and advance proficient reading of the musical staff. Professional skills I've developed and spearheaded a music curriculum at The House of Khamit in Washington DC., this was the largest and oldest cultural store that Washington D.C. had to offer as of 3/12/12. Organize and direct student bands, for performing at recitals', and other small events. I've been teaching guitar, bass and music theory for well over the last 15 years, often in group or band settings, as well as individual classes. All ages are preferred. A brief summery of my curriculum includes (not in any particular order), picking out an instrument, learning to sit or stand with the instrument. Learning a simple complete song. Learning the notes while learning how to finger the instrument while learning the scale and a simple melody all in the first position, in short multi-tasking the first five frets. Learning note values. Playing complete songs with chord charts, then playing by reading staff. Playing complete melodies. More left hand fretting and right hand picking technique with and or without a plectrum. Ear and rhythm training. Music history, as it pertains to Spanish, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, also the history of the origins of techniques as it pertains to individual artist that advanced the genres. Transcribing music for use in sight reading in different keys. Employment History "Bravo Music Lessons" from 2/07/09 to present. "Arena Sound" Arlington Va. 4/10/2008 to present. "The House of Khamit" Washington DC. from 4/12/05 to the 3/13/12. "B Sharp C Natural" from 01/01/98 I have been training students under this name for over 10 years, this is my trade name. I perform at various, events mostly as a solo artist, at coffee houses, bookstores weddings, and small events, private parties. Education I continue to study, and practice music, for myself my students and fans. With no "formal" music education, I am well acquainted with pedagogy of the guitar and bass, song structure, and also the techniques which are in demand and specific to the instruments of guitar and bass. My training includes an in depth knowledge and understanding of music theory, as it is applied to many styles of music, mostly in the tradition and direction of Jazz and Jazz improvisation. Two Fender P basses and one Epiphone. Twin speaker 212 Crate guitar amp, Fender half stack, a crate practice amp, these are what i use for the guitar. For the bass i Use a Hartke bass 12 inch woofer bass amp. Foot pedals include Zoom kidney. *** Travel Equipment *** I like to travel light, when I do I'll take the Taylor Big Baby with me. If I travel heavy then it's the Fender Steel resonator guitar the FR 48 I prefer going Acoustic for the cozy feel. I have many other guitars these are my preference. sometimes I'll mike the Fender as in the video "Blast To Future/Half Mile Of Sound, with a blow horn, it really gets a half mile of sound when I hit it right. My electric set up can go from Epiphone SG's or John Lee Hooker's signature series to the Washburn J6 connected to a Fender half stack or a twin speaker Crate 212 amp. I like it loud. I use zoom pedals. *** Specialties *** My main specialty beyond all else is the ability to improvise and hear the specifics of a piece of music and adapt, often times playing full verses of music on the first or second approach after only hearing it once. Adaptation of reading in real time with my "Intervallic Sight Reading Method. It's all music, all day and all night. I am well versed in most of the popular styles, Blues, Jazz, Reggae, Rock, Latin. I've developed "The New Intervallic Site Reading Approach" which drastically reduces the time it takes to read the staff.

    - Mr Mandel is the most patient instructor, which is good since he's dealing with an 8 year old girl who's not sure she even wants to play an instrument. Somehow, he manages to instruct and motivate her even when she'd rather be playing computer games. - I also take lessons from him- I've got a music background but had no previous experience with the guitar before and Mr Mandel was able to adapt his teaching style to accommodate that nicely. -I highly recommend him!

I am an adult who began guitar as an adult and I have taken lessons with Mandel for nearly a year. He is the single best music instructor I have ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable and versatile, welcomes questions, and will take time to explain anything even if it interferes with his planned lesson. He is encouraging and incredibly professional. I leave every lesson ready to try again and encouraged to keep practicing. I highly recommend him as a guitar and music theory instructor.
