Makulumy is a pianist, arranger, and theatrical music director based in New York City. A graduate of Stanford University, he concentrated on a range of musical activities during his education, ranging from Romantic piano performance-practice, to conducting and vocal coaching for musical theater. Professionally, he has worked at the American Repertory Theater, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley, Stanford Repertory Theater, and several New York venues on theatrical productions including Finding Neverland, Triangle, and Ragtime on Ellis Island. His teaching experience covers a wide variety of topics. He has been a music director for numerous theatrical productions, coaching singers and musicians to quality performances. While teaching popular-music-centered piano lessons to several students at Stanford University, he was also a Teaching Assistant for the ear-training and musicianship courses in the music department, which covered music theory, keyboard harmony, and sight-singing. For TakeLessons, he provides piano lessons from beginning to advanced levels, as well as intermediate-level vocal instruction for singers primarily interested in musical theater and "show tunes".
