Stanford Jazz Workshop

This is a summer position (not year round) involving the last two weeks of July. I teach flute and saxophone masterclasses and private lessons, ear training classes, theory, and lead combos of 5-10 students.

Jazz at Lincoln Center

I have worked with the Middle School Jazz Academy as both an assistant to the Manhattan program early on and as a guest clinician with the Bronx division this past year. Duties have included teaching private woodwind lessons, leading warm-ups, directing the large ensemble as well as horn sectionals, and writing/arranging music for the large ensemble.

Calhoun School

While at Calhoun (a private school on the UWS, NYC,) I helped develop the jazz improvisation program in the upper school and directed small jazz combos.

Michigan State University

In conjunction with my Graduate degree program, I was a teacher's assistant to the director of Jazz Studies in several of his classes. In addition to that, I taught several classes myself, including freshman jazz improvisation and an intro jazz history course. I also taught private lessons in flute for a few of the saxophone students who wished to double.

Detroit Civic Jazz Orchestra

Once a week I led a masterclass for the 15 saxophone players in the program then sat lead alto in the top big band during rehearsal. We also performed as a Youth Jazz Orchestra at competitions and festivals.

I have taught private lessons to students as young as 3 and as old as their mid-50's for the past 15 years. Most commonly I teach either saxophone or flute, but I have also taught general music lessons, beginning piano/drum/trumpet lessons, and Finale Notation Software lessons. I teach at home, at the student's home, or online via Skype.
