My teaching experience began 10 years ago. At CSU, I received a Master's in Cello Performance and a Certificate in Cello Pedagogy. I use Suzuki books but only as a sheet music resource. I teach primarily outside of the multi-purpose, Cellocity book. Using folk songs and familiar tunes as a way to instill rhythmic integrity and special techniques like thumb position. I am very much into using the voice and body in order to make memorable, musical connections. I encourage other music types and techniques, improvisation, transcribing, etc. I also advise my students to get involved in chamber and large ensemble groups outside of school.
The curriculum follows guidelines established by the American String Teachers Association and includes comprehensive training in methods developed by renowned pedagogues such as Robert Gillespie, Paul Rolland, and Phyllis Young.
