I have been a professional performing musician and teacher for going on a decade. I've studied jazz guitar and film scoring at Berklee as well as bass and composition at Lewis and Clark. I've toured across the country several times over, playing everything from jazz to funk, metal to pop. More importantly, I've been teaching privately since high school when I'd bike to students houses around my neighborhood. Since then I've taught at the local branches of School of Rock in Portland, OR, Boston, and New York, teaching privately, coaching ensembles, directing student concerts, and teaching theory workshops. I also have been working to integrate cutting edge digital technology into my teaching practices should students wish to explore contemporary processes. Music has long been my life's love, and my highest hopes lie in in sharing its rewards.

I also have spent terms on and off teaching middle and high school English, History, and Spanish and have moonlighted in kitchens and bars. I freelance as a writer of both fiction and journalism.

No matter what you are interested in, my lessons are wholly student driven. I work with you to determine your goals and how to best achieve them through fun and accessible exercises.

*** Lesson Details ***
My primary interest with any student regardless of age or instrument is to cultivate a higher appreciation and understanding of music, both as a listener and a participant. As the hopes of any student is the mastery of songs, my teaching style is largely founded in learning songs, no matter the difficulty level. While I have a myriad of exercises and drills to build technical prowess, I work with each student to build a curriculum as unique as they are, they're own musical tastes the seeds from which we will grow our goals. Not too far removed in years from my own beginning days, I know it's no fun to try and play what you wouldn't listen to in the first place. As basic technique is developed I introduce students to a wider range of influences that best suits their interests and aims. All I ask from my students is that they enjoy their practice, however strenuous or laid back it may be.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home Studio Desk with amplifiers (no drum kit)

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own instruments and amplification. I can loan students both for a lesson, but not for take-home practice.

*** Specialties ***
Funk, Jazz, Metal, Blues, Rock

Exceptional Teacher, Inspirational Musician

Luke is undoubtedly the best music instructor I have ever had. Not only is his knowledge of Music Theory, Composition, and Instrumentation above and beyond, He also finds a way to communicate his vast knowledge of these subjects to someone like myself who has little knowledge and is starting from the drawing board. Moreover, Luke's ability to work with programs such as Ableton Live, Reason and Logic (just to name a few) makes him truly a teacher for the 21st century because it allows him to work with the past, in the present, for the future. If you are looking for a teacher who is as well rounded as the wheel, I would seriously suggest Luke, hes nice, fun and at the time very serious about helping his student's vision become a reality.

Luke was very accommodating to schedule, choice of location and music goals. He has a lot of patience knows how to balance teaching music technicalities and applying them. Luke is very adaptable to what your learning goals are and works with you from there. Great person to learn from, understanding and friendly making learning the bass much much less stressful. He is a very cool guy and ensures you learn whilst enjoying the lesson and having fun which in my opinion is the most effective way. I would personally recommend Luke to any potential students out there.
