About Lukas G.
I am a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician and have performed all over the US and Europe. I am a recent graduate of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and am currently pursuing my masters degree at the University of Southern California. My principal teachers have been Ralph Kirshbaum, Desmond Hoebig, Hans Jensen, Richard Aaron, and Frans Helmerson. In addition to performing, I began teaching in 2019, and have found it immensely rewarding to help others unlock their technique and improve their abilities on the cello.

Lukas was incredibly helpful as a teacher because it's clear that he's spent so much time over the last several years thinking about how the cello works and how to constantly be improving as a player. Lukas knows the best exercises to help solve whatever problems you may have as a player, and he has the real-world experience to back it up. I was particularly impressed by his ability to break down exactly what goes into creating a beautiful tone on the cello. He made me see my own technique differently and opened my eyes to aspects of cello playing that I had never thought of before. But most importantly, Lukas is a great teacher because he leads you to your own solutions. He won't just give you the answer to a specific passage of music, he will give you the tools to level up as a player, which you can then apply to anything you play. I would highly recommend taking lessons with Lukas Goodman.

Lukas has been a peer/colleague of mine for the past 6 years. As a conservatory student myself, I have often turned to Lukas for insight and help on various struggles I face as a cellist. As a cellist and technician, he has profound understanding of the fundamental concepts of playing the cello, whilst maintaining the ability to break things down in a simple and concise fashion. As an artist and musician, he constantly challenges himself for deeper expertise in so many facets of the art – both technically and musically.
Lukas has a clever sense of humor, is very bright, and void of arrogance (which I experienced so many times from teachers when I started out). I am certain he would provide a student of any level and goal with an adaptive, forward-focused approach. I cannot thank Lukas enough for the amount he has helped me, and I am certain he can do the same for so many others
