About Luis C.

I hope you enjoy reading my profile and are inspired to reach out!
Alongside my performing career as a classically trained tenor, I have been teaching voice for the past 20 years. I attended The Boston Conservatory and am a graduate of Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. My performance career enabled me to perform in Europe and across the United States in such halls as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, The Town Hall, NYC and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
I have extensive experience in Opera, Oratorio, Musical Theater, Zarzuela and Popular music.
In our lessons we will focus on your individual gifts...together we will enhance the innate ability you posses with your singing. My teaching is based on the great Bel Canto tradition that masters like Garcia and Lamperti set forth. It all starts with an understanding of proper diaphragmatic breathing and establishing a true legato in your singing. Always remember that quality towers over quantity.
Let's enjoy the process!

I began taking lessons with Luis when I was 12 years old. I had a background of vocal health issues and had already been diagnosed with vocal nodules at the time. He was able to teach me proper singing and breathing technique, that transformed my voice. I continued to train with Luis all through middle school and high school, where he provided me with several songs for my repertoire and coached me for successful auditions for school shows, community theaters, and well known summer conservatories through Paper Mill Playhouse and NJPAC. I went on to study Musical Theatre Performance in college and credit Luis with providing me with such a strong vocal foundation. Additionally, Luis is an incredible and genuine human being. He truly cares about his students and continues to check up on myself and my family to this day.

I highly recommend Luis as a voice coach. My daughter has been working with Luis for 6 years and he is excellent. Her voice has grown and matured in ways that would not have been possible without him. He is patient and kind, can teach a variety of music styles, music reading if desired, and breathing techniques. He brings out the best in his students and encourages them to grow and expand their abilities.

Luis is an amazing instructor. He helped my daughter get parts in plays. He gave her the confidence to make a few music videos. He is a genuine person and truly believes in helping students find their “voice”. I would highly recommend him to your company.

Luis has by far been the best vocal coach I have ever had. Aside from his charismatic and caring personality, his goal is ultimately to make you the best version of yourself. His vocal techniques are extremely useful and have helped me improve ever since my junior year of high school (I'm currently a junior in college). He goes beyond being a vocal coach- he aids in song selection, building your repertoire, and so much more. He has held recitals that I have performed in and he's been a fantastic mentor, coach, and supporter of mine. Truly, not enough can be said about him. From teaching me how to belt without straining to helping me expand my range and strengthen my mix, he's done it all.
Thank you a dozen times over! I would recommend him to anyone!

I began taking lessons with Luis going into my freshman year of High School. Before working with him, I was active in Musical Theatre, and wanted to work with someone who would help me practice music over the summer, and prepare for show auditions during the school year. After my first lesson with Luis, I immediately knew that working with him would be something I would look forward to every week, and my judgements were correct! I can happily say that I was fortunate enough to have Luis as my voice teacher all throughout high school. During our lessons he helped me practice music for auditions, my school choir repertoire, and he even began teaching me how to play the piano! He also came to watch me in one of my shows, which is something I will always remember. Continuing to practice music in college, in an Acapella group I auditioned for in the fall, I can say that I still use so many of the skills Luis taught me during my lessons! He is so patient, and I will really miss working with him, and will always be incredibly grateful for all he has taught me, that I will continue to carry with me as I continue to sing in college.

Where do I even start! When I was about 17 years old, a family friend referred Luis to me for vocal teaching. The moment I met Luis, was the moment my life changed into a life I never even dreamed I could attain! He's so patient, he's so kind, he's so SMART and he truly cares about all of his students! When I first met Luis, I barely sang around anyone but after just a few months of working with him I began to have so much confidence in my singing! Luis got me to do things with my voice, that I never imagined I'd EVER be able to do. He taught me so many things, especially with technique! And it doesn't matter what genre you sing either(he can teach within the lines of any genre you prefer to sing in), when I first started with Luis I was a rocker chick (aw, 17 year old me who loved bands like Paramore and Evanescence)! Working with Luis got me into my first band. Got me performing on stage every weekend! Working with Luis, got me an invite to audition for a band in California when I was 19 years old! Working with Luis, got me an acceptance into one of the most prestigious music schools in the world: the Berklee College of Music! I had tons of vocal teachers while studying at Berklee and none of them compared to Luis! I'm now 27 years old, and I own my own business creating jingles and viral songs for companies and podcasts all over the world!! Which means, even now almost 10 years since I had my first lesson with Luis, I'm still using my voice, singing every single day and have the opportunity to make money because of my singing voice. Luis is worth EVERY PENNY! Do not hesitate to get a lesson with him, I promise you, you won't regret it! It was the best decision I've ever made!

Voice Teacher
Jul 1999 - Dec 2001

Boys and Girls Harbor Conservatory in NYC

Throughout my performing career I was fortunate enough to work with wonderful and inspiring musical talents such as Licia Albanese and Martina Arroyo, just to name a few. I was able to sing nationally and internationally, performing leading roles in Opera, Concerts, Oratorio, Zarzuela and Musical Theater..... My teaching career started in NYC at The Boys and Girls Harbor Conservatory and there I taught many singers with interests in pop, jazz, musical theater and salsa....many of them went on to professional careers in the music industry....most notably, a wonderful singer and actress, Michelle Dorant, spent six years working at THE LION KING on Broadway! Since then, I have helped students enter prestigious musical conservatories, win competitions and prepare for upcoming auditions. The process of learning how to sing and building a technique takes dedication and patience. I enjoy helping my students meet their potential and eventually see their dreams come true.
