English (ESL) with Lucy M.

Students who are passionate about learning or need the extra motivation to move toward their goals are welcome here. I love language, communication arts, and teaching! Recently becoming a mom, I decided to take a career break as a language instructor and lecturer in communication at the university. In college, I was a tutor in the Modern Language department for French and Italian. In graduate school, I earned a TESOL certification (to teach a foreign/second language), and later a master of arts in Applied Linguistics, majoring in Foreign Language Pedagogy. What makes me unique, beyond years of teaching experience in ESL and studying the subject, is the fact that I was myself for a few years an ESL student. I have used my experience as a student of the English language to make my classes and tutoring sessions filled with relevant content. This allows students to develop an understanding of culture through language and language through culture.
