I believe that a musical education is very important, life changing even. No matter the age of my students, I emphasize on creativity, discipline and problem solving strategies that must be discovered when immersing oneself into the world of cello playing.
I received my Bachelors of Music in cello performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory and later received my Masters degree from University of Redlands. At both institutions I held principal positions, was an active member in all string ensembles and performed often in university related events. Outside of school, I perform with the Dana Point Symphony and continue to freelance with several ensembles. Previously, I have been part of the Los Angeles Jr. Philharmonic, Olympia Youth Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, Debut Orchestra and was a student member of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra. I have also participated in Masterclasses for Irene Sharp, Cecilia Tsan, Bonnie Hampton, Johannes Moser, Tao Ni, Robert deMaine, and the Calder and Borromeo String Quartets.
Lessons take place in a beautiful craftsman house in the Historic Prospect Park district of Pasadena, though I'm also happy to travel to you.

I like how I learned so much more, Ms. Lucy helps me with my 3rd and 4th fingerings. I always misplace my finger's. she had also taught me what type of bow I should be using. For me, I would recommend her as a teacher for people who want to learn cello. This is my second-month playing cello with Ms. Lucy and I have learned many songs. Even the famous song Blue Danube. I like how she's nice, funny and very patient, but we get a lot done together.
Ms. Lucy is a spectacular cello teacher, she teaches you things that you don't learn in school like Harmonics and the third octave. She also fixes our bad habits and shows you the correct way like having a round hand when playing the "A" string and to have you thumb on the string when it is below the saddle. I liked the lesson a lot and I can't wait for the next lesson next week+ Read More
She is a great teacher because she explained to me different kinds of fingerings and vibrato . She taught me different songs like old folks at home. When I made a mistakes, I did it over and over until I got it right. We changed the open strings into 4th position so i could learn 4th position faster. I'm looking forward to the next lesson! ( ' w ' ).+ Read More
I love the energy that she brings with each lesson. It's inspiring that she has such a passion for music and this is evident in each and every lesson. Her pacience, kindness, skill, and love for music make her the best teacher i have had!
Lucy is the best cello teacher I have had in the seven years I've been playing. She connects very well with her students and I would never be able to play the pieces I play today without her.
I'm really lucky to have Lucy as my cello teacher. Not only is she truly inspiring and encouraging but she is also a wonderful person who is always so kind and happy. Although I have a busy schedule Lucy motivates me to find time to practice every week.+ Read More

As parents of a young cellist, we are very lucky to be working with Lucy. Her love for everything cello shines through during each lesson. She is very patient and at the same time encouraging. We've watch our child stall from the last teacher and blossom under Lucy's direction. And from there, grow into becoming a part of the city’s youth orchestra.
No two kids learn the same way. Her instruction style doesn't seem to be a fixed rigorous standard set of steps. She doesn't expect absolute perfection, but works closely with each student and brings out the best path for success. We really believe her different experiences - her own education, performances and positive drive gives Lucy the key to bring out the successful cellist.
I highly recommend cello lessons from Lucy! She is an incredibly talented musician and passionate teacher and I am grateful to have her leading the way to cello bliss!
I started lessons with Lucy about a year ago and I am pleased with the progress I have made. I came back to the cello after almost 15 years of letting it collect dust in the corner. Along with me, I brought enthusiasm for the instrument, but also brought multiple bad habits that needed to be corrected in order to take my abilities beyond my previous level. Thankfully Lucy is very skilled at providing constructive feedback and ensuring that the proper technique is being used at all times; I always know that she will tell me when I am doing something well... or if an area needs extra attention. Or a lot of attention. 😀
Another aspect that I enjoy about Lucy is that she makes lessons very enjoyable and productive at the same time. I look forward to my lesson every week and find myself enjoying playing more than ever thanks to Lucy! She is the best!
Here's to finally learning how to play Bach's Cello Suite like a pro!! 🙌
