I received my Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from Shepherd University in 2016. I have been performing for almost a decade in a wide variety of styles and ensembles, and teaching professionally since 2014. I have composed numerous works for marimba, percussion ensembles, piano, and other mixed ensembles. ▶ My teaching style I focus on teaching control, musicality, and well-roundedness to achieve musical excellence. I believe that an open mind is essential when approaching and analyzing music, and I implore my students to ask questions and to think independently. I assign listening assignments often, to broaden musical knowledge and allow students to discover their individual taste and style. The ideal percussionist possesses a great knowledge of contemporary literature in addition to significant repertoire in history, and therefore much of my focus is music of the present. Along with teaching technique, repertoire, and musical analysis, I will focus on developing proper practice skills, and how to overcome problems that develop during individual practice, in an effort to establish musical independence. ▶ Studio information My home studio is equipped with a 4.0 octave marimba, snare drum, drum set, piano, cajon, djembe, frame drums, and other accessories.
