Learn viola from 20+ year orchestra teacher, performer, and professor

I teach violin and viola students of all ages, learning backgrounds and abilities. I like to help students find strategies to improve their playing and enjoyment of music. In private lessons I also like to balance solo work with some attention to skills through etudes or bow work, which helps develop character of sound and the range of choices we have as musicians. I'm willing to teach occasional pops tunes, although I teach mostly traditional, folk tunes, and classical literature. I am willing to send some supplementary or arranged tunes for beginners.

Hello! One of my passions is helping students achieve their own goals. I have taught violin and viola privately for about twenty years. I have also taught orchestra at all levels, and directed youth symphony and coached youth symphony viola section in my area. In 2012 I was named "Teacher of the Year" for my district, as an orchestra teacher. I have performed as a contract violist with semi-professional orchestras for thirty years With my love of music and sharing it with others, and helping them reach their goals, I enjoy using what I know about our string instruments and the pedagogy, along with some of your own hopes or wishes. Some students like to be able to play songs for their grandparents. Some like to auditions successfully for honors orchestras. Others like to feel more confident so that playing their instrument becomes more fun. I would like to work with you on your own goals or helping you enjoy your instrument and all of its possibilities more!
