About LoriAnn F.

Grammy Award winning Soprano, International Opera Star, Experienced Voice Teacher, Highly knowledgable in all styles of music: classical, musical theater, pop, jazz, and blues.

Originally from Longview, Texas, I grew up Shreveport/Bossier, Louisiana. I went to college at Stetson Univ in DeLand, Florida, and did my Master of Music degree at DePaul Univ, in Chicago.

I grew up singing from age 4 at church and in musical theatre shows, playing piano from age 5, performing recitals and accompanying choirs and singers throughout my high school and college career. I started singing professionally in college and made my Lyric Opera of Chicago debut at age 26.

I sang in Europe numerous times and eventually landed in Los Angeles, where I have worked with LA Opera since 2007. **It is with LA Opera that I won a Grammy Award for my performance in the opera Ghosts of Versailles.** I recently moved to Cleveland, Ohio, while still keeping LA connections.

Singing, performing and teaching has always been my way of life! I started Voice Academy LA last year and have been building up my private voice studio since my college days. I am experienced, very knowledgeable, and have a fun personality! I take time to explain everything to my students so they can grasp healthy, vocal technique, and duplicate it on their own.

I demonstrate what I teach and will create a unique vocal plan for each student so that they can achieve the best results. We will have fun together and you will see results in time. I teach a classically based technique that build your voice and can be applied to whatever style you prefer.

Singing is a lifelong pursuit, and while I can coach you for an upcoming audition, it is dedication and regular practice and application that will sustain you in the longterm. I work with students at all levels, professional to beginner.

It was a great lesson. LoriAnn really engaged with me and understood where I was starting from and was able to customize the lesson accordingly. Also, I was very happy that she focused on building up my technical foundation. Looking forward to working with her to get my singing voice back!!!

I have been taking lessons with LoriAnn for around 2 months now and can honestly say she is an incredible instructor. LoriAnn makes the most of each lesson and truly cares about her student's progress. As a guitarist myself, I can clearly see LoriAnn's incredible wealth of knowledge not only in the field of music but also with explaining the voice as an instrument. As with any instrument improving takes time, patience, and a great instructor. LoriAnn notices every small important detail, always has a strong answer to any question I have, and never runs out of ways to explain confusing new techniques. If you want an instructor that will take an extra 5 minutes at the end of the lesson to finish up a song, will never put you down or make you feel as if your voice isn't good enough, and establishes a comfortable and judgement-free environment for you to really learn how to sing, then LoriAnn is the instructor for you!

Fantastic lesson! I had my reservations about the Zoom/online part, but it works just fine. She is able to see and hear me just fine. Lori Ann is really in tune with my personal singing issues. You never feel like any time is wasted working with her.

Lori Ann is undoubtedly the best vocal teacher I have studied with. She has transformed me from a timid, shy singer to a confident, self-assured performer and opera singer.

I can't say enough great stuff about Lori Ann. When you work with Lori Ann, not only do you get a world class voice teacher, but also a role preparation coach, accompanist and mentor.

I have been studying under Lori Ann for over 15 years. I originally came to her seeking a tune-up in my vocal production skills. Although I had sung for years, my voice became raspy quickly. My sound was often "covered" causing me to sound flat. Lori Ann worked with me diligently to learn healthy breathing techniques, teaching me how NOT to sing from the throat (which causes the raspiness/tiredness) and how to place my sound so that it was "brighter" and not flat.

The great thing about working with Lori Ann is that she never tires of presenting a technique in a different way if you don't understand it the first or second time. She is warm and friendly and truly throws herself into making you successful at your craft and developing YOUR individual sound.

You never feel like any time is wasted. She is always determined to make sure when you leave your lesson that you are clear and feel you've accomplished something.

But Lori Ann's abilities in helping you with your musical mission far surpass teaching you how to sing better. What she offers you will go way beyond your expectations. Over the past 15 years, Lori Ann has helped me prepare for countless paid singing roles as a church worship leader for classical and contemporary formats, Christmas caroling performer, pop/rock/standards singer, musical theater roles and EVEN operatic roles. In addition to the music, Lori Ann helped me to learn the language, staging and develop the character for several complicated operatic roles I sung in Russian, Italian, French and German - languages I was not familiar with before I began my opera-singing venture.

Folks who have studied voice professionally know that when you work with a voice teacher, you also have a separate piano accompanist on hand. As an accomplished pianist, Lori Ann can ALSO accompany you in your lesson, regardless of the genre whether it be rock or classical.

She tailors her approach to you as an individual and can help prepare your individual audition package if you are going the professional route.

When you work with Lori Ann, you don't just get a "teacher" who has taught at Los Angeles area colleges, but you also get someone who comes to the the table with several years worth of experience working as a professional singer singing. Lori Ann herself is a mainstage performer with the Los Angeles Opera, having won a Grammy for her role with them in "The Ghosts of Versailles."

Under the tutelage of Lori Ann, my voice and performance ability have grown in monumental ways. Without her training, I simply would not have had the singing opportunities I did. I can't recommend a lesson with Lori Ann enough.

The most important thing I learned from lessons with Lori Ann is her insistence on good breathing techniques. I started to understand proper breathing from the very first lesson.

I cannot recommend anyone more incredible both as a singer and teacher, but more so someone who will bring your voice to new heights almost instantaneously other than LORI ANN.
For over 10 years, Lori Ann helped me learn the music, language, etc for several complicated operatic roles I learned in Russian, Italian, French and German. She grew my voice to new Heights and without her training, I would not have had the singing opportunities I did.

She is warm and friendly and truly throws herself into making you successful at your craft. You never feel like any time is wasted.

Why I like Vocal Lessons is because its always fun to have a music adventure and to practice my music without my family just saying I'm good not just from family but from my teacher, Lori Ann..
She helps me get my voice better. If it wasn't for her, my singing voice would be terrible. Thank you, Lori Ann

I have the best experience learning how to use my body and vocal ability through LoriAnn’s expert teachings.

She’s extremely encouraging and knowledgeable and most importantly through times of my lack of understanding her ability to encourage and inspire me as I continue to trust her training and teaching always prevails that I can accomplish what she knows and believes I am capable of doing.

In singing, we are using an instrument and LoriAnn’s expert training fine tunes that instrument with precision and kindness.
