There are options. We often begin with songs that the student already likes. Sometimes that's the ticket. From Bach to the Beatles, Taylor Swift to Bob Dylan, there are always great entrance points. Theory, (chords, intervals, scales, cadences, etc.) Reading music, (tabs, traditional music notation, charts), Technique, (right and left hand patterns), it's all covered.
