*Just a note about Summer schedule. Many people are taking vacations now, which means there are holes everywhere. If you purchase the "schedule as you go plan", I can probably fit you in a spot pretty much anywhere on a week to week basis. 😊
I have been a guitar and voice instructor for over 15 years, and a piano teacher for 6, my piano program is the most popular. I am able to get you playing in no time. I have also tutored elementary students and worked for Montessori's for many years. I really love this job! I also teach beginning violin and ukulele.
I had a real hard time learning guitar when I was growing up because of an accident to my left arm, but I wanted to play so much that I was able to overcome it. Because of this, I think I have learned to be a very patient teacher. I see students who get frustrated and think that it's too hard to play the guitar or piano, but I promise you, my program is fun and simple. I can show you the steps to success. I have taught over 1000 students in a variety of cities from Minneapolis Minnesota, to Los Angeles California, and now Portland Oregon. This is what I do. It is all I do. I have individually taught over 28,000 lessons total in 17 years, so I have dealt with every kind of person including those with disabilities. I have taught every age from 5-70. I am also a performer, and I own my own music publishing company through ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers). I currently teach Piano to level 4, so if you are a beginner, you will love my new program. Music is my life, I can help you make your dream of playing a musical instrument come true, even in a few short lessons. You can do it! I have worked for Take Lessons a long time and have a good track record.
* I hold recitals twice a year in May and November, however they are not mandatory. Check out my videos.
*** Lesson Details ***
The thing I have learned over the years teaching guitar, piano or voice, is that everyone learns differently. I have taught in family situations where there are two or three siblings learning at the same time, but each sibling learned the skills that are unique to them. Some students are better at playing rhythm, some students are better at lead, some students are better with barre chords. As long as you are enjoying playing the instrument, you will be able to grow in every area at your own pace. Music should be a fun and rewarding experience. My lessons usually include songs that you like to play and are at your level of playing ability. Whatever makes you feel the most comfortable is how you will be able to learn the best. Tell me what you need I am always here to help you.

Private Cancellation Policy
Effective 1/1/2014, all lessons scheduled with Lisa N., Take Lessons instructor for piano, guitar, bass, and voice, will now have new reschedule and cancellation requirements. These requirements are that no lessons may be cancelled, only rescheduled. If students miss a lesson due to sickness, vacation, traffic, or emergency, the student will have the lesson marked as missed, but will be allowed to make up the lesson within the month. A bonus to you. The student must make up the lesson on a Saturday, if other times are not available for rescheduling throughout the week. Check with the instructor for flexibility in scheduling, as every effort will be made to accommodate the situation. There will no longer be a 24 hour cancellation policy as all lessons will be marked missed. The teacher will give the same consideration due to emergencies, sickness, and or classes, and if a student shows up at the studio and a lesson cannot be given by the teacher for any reason, the student will not be charged.
Thanks Sincerely Lisa N.

Lisa is great. She is very patient which is important for a complete novice. Her guitar playing shows she has the skill and experience of a veteran player.
Lisa is great. She's very patient with our almost 5 year old and enthusiastic with success.
I am terrified of singing in front of others. She was so welcoming and great. After the first lesson, I am already feeling more confident in myself. I definitely recommend!
Wonderful instructor, very encouraging
Lisa was wonderful with my daughter who is so shy and was so nervous. Lisa made her feel comfortable and more confident.
My 11 yr old daughter has only had one lesson thus far but I am so impressed. Lisa was so nice and positive and really got to work fast with my daughter and had her playing simple songs on the first day! Quite a surprise to me! She came home to practice more and was so excited about being able to take lessons, which is not a regular occurrence for her. I am usually trying to get her to do things but Lisa showed her quickly how capable she was and how fun it could be.
Thank you Lisa!
She was great! Very patient and a great teacher. My daughter is excited to have direction and focus.
Lisa is a mentor and an amazing instructor!
We have been extremely pleased with Lisa N., my daughter's instructor. We
have been with her for about 4 years, and it has been a wonderful
experience. We would definitely recommend her for anyone looking for a
The first lesson for bass guitar went very well. The level of instruction was just right and got right into some playing which really helped keep the student engaged. Asking her about types of music helped put her at ease. We look forward to future lessons.+ Read More
I asked Maranda how her first singing lesson went, and she said amazing.
After my oldest daughter had been taking guitar for a while, we decided to start her younger sister on piano. It's so nice to be able to have the lessons back to back. After just one lesson my daughter could already play a song. My daughter decided to play in the recital, and she sounded like a pro after only 6 months. Lisa is very talented as a musician and teacher. She really wants her students to feel successful and to feel engaged. She teaches them classical music as well as what is popular today. I'm amazed at how quickly my daughter is progressing.+ Read More
My daughter has been taking guitar and sometimes voice lessons for over 2 years now. Lisa is very encouraging and positive. She teaches whatever music my daughter wants to learn and continually encourages her to try new things. She has even helped her and a couple of friends prepare their song for a final in choir class. I would highly recommend Lisa as an instructor.+ Read More
Great teacher! She's very patient and adapts to you and your goals.
My son adores her and is doing great.
I'm so lucky to have Lisa as an instructor. She helped me come out of my "singing shell". I'm excited to continue growing as a singer. If you're looking for an instructor you've found the perfect one in Lisa!
Lisa is a great teacher. She is very talented and can teach many musical forms--one of the reasons we chose her. She also lives only a few miles from us so it's perfect to go to her house for lessons after school each week. She's encouraging and goes at the speed that's right for my daughter. My daughter has never taken lessons before. She began with piano and then added voice 2 months later. My daughter has always loved to sing but is very shy about sharing her talent. Lisa has helped boost her confidence so much that after only 5 months, my daughter performed both piano and voice at the recital. We couldn't be happier and are so proud. Thanks Lisa :)+ Read More
Lisa is very encouraging and sees your true potential. My lessons began with voice and have advanced into guitar lessons. She has provided what I need to succeed. Thank you so much!
Challenging and FUN!
I've taken 3 lesson with Lisa so far, and I'm definitely going back for more! She is a great teacher, easy to work with and I LOVE that she challenges me to be better! I used to play piano as a small child, and I don't remember having had this much fun. I can't wait to see what she has in store for me next week! Thank you, LIsa for making my lessons something I look forward to every week! :)
Uplifting and encouraging
Lisa has shared her love of music with my children. She is one of the most upbeat, patient and encouraging teachers I've met. Her range of expertise on a variety of instruments is ever expanding. My daughters truly love coming to piano lessons to grow their skills with Lisa. There are always smiles and laughter in the room. They don't complain about practicing because they enjoy learning currently popular songs as well as the classics. They look forward to showing their teacher that they can perform a skill or song. The recital was not a typical recital, because many of her students play guitar and sing as well as play piano. It was like an 'open mic' performance for solos as well as a variety of collaborative group performances. I like the variety of options that are offered, as my daughters may want to learn the Ukelele or improve their singing voice, we could remain with Lisa's tutelage. We feel lucky to have found Lisa as a creative and talented teacher.
I am very happy with my daughters lessons and her teacher
My daughter has finally found an activity that makes her want to practice and work toward a goal and is having fun. she really likes her teacher
My 15 yr old daughter enjoys all of her lessons and is learning quickly. Lisa is very a qualified and experienced teacher. She is detail oriented and lays a good foundation for learning piano.
Lisa is absolutely wonderful! She chooses music that both interests my daughter and is appropriate for her skill level (beginner). My 13 year old is motivated and progressing quickly, and best of all, she is self-motivated when it comes to practicing!
Instructor that enjoys teaching
I have been taking voice lessons from Lisa for the last few weeks, and I am very pleased with what I have been getting out of it. I am a 30 year old software developer that randomly decided to start playing guitar a couple of years ago. Now I've decided to learn to sing to go along with that. Lisa has been very encouraging during our sessions while also showing me what I need to work on. If you're an adult that doesn't know much about singing, don't be afraid to take voice lessons from Lisa.
Excellent teacher for all ages
I am taking lessons along with my 13 year old daughter. Lisa is very professional and keeps the lessons fun and challenging. Also learning music that is relevant to both of us. Highly recommend her for anyone wanting to start learning guitar!
Lisa is a patient and talented teacher who keeps an energetic thirteen-year-old engaged, practicing, and learning.
