Every student is unique. Because of this, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching. A teacher and the curriculum a teacher uses must be adaptable.

I believe in goal based practicing and learning. So many students quit lessons because they cannot stand the monotony of going to a lesson and practicing only to check off one song every week. They may also quit because parents tire of the incessant prodding needed to get a student to practice. If a student has personal goals that they have set and decided upon, they will be more inclined to continue learning and they will enjoy the challenge. Although there are some aspects of learning any musical instrument that you cannot push to the side, I believe there are times when a student does not have to be well-versed in every area or genre of the instrument.

No matter your background or goals, I have the experience and training to help you attain your those goals and get you closer to reaching your vision. I have taught six to twelve year old students just learning the basics, teenagers preparing to audition for university music programs, students in their middle ages hoping to reignite a talent and passion from their youth and a seventy-eight year old woman hoping to be a better accompanist for her church congregation. Each of these individuals began at a different place and had a different vision for their future as a musician. Regardless of what your vision is, I can help guide you there.

Teaching since:

There are ways of expressing emotion and feeling emotion that can only be felt through music. I believe this is because music has the ability to connect all of us with the divine.

My first priority with every student is to help them feel the music they are making on a level deeper than how the music works technically. Though I will never discount the importance of learning correct techniques and studying academic repertoire, there is nothing more important than learning how to express emotions through music and to perform in a way to allow others to feel moved by what is performed.

Students who develop this ability will never quit playing their instrument. They may quit lessons at some point in there life due to reaching some kind of personal comfort level, but they will never quit because they will have found an outlet that allows them to express themselves in a way unlike anything else.

I'm currently receiving a degree in organ performance from Brigham Young University and have taken many classes focusing on piano and organ pedagogy. I have years of teaching experience and have maintained a piano/organ studio since the age of fourteen. I currently serve as organist in my own religion and in another denomination. At a young age I caught on to the amazing power of music. I hope to help my students to do the same, not only by instilling in each of them a love and understanding of music but also by guiding them to find their own form of expression and feel their own connection to others through music.

I am a beginning organ student and just learning the beauty of the sounds this wonderful instrument creates. Levi has helped me interpret hymns for church playing in a way I never before thought of or felt. He already has me playing half the hymns I play in church with the pedals. He pushes me “just right” to help me accomplish more than I would think possible. I highly recommend investing your future piano or organ abilities with Levi’s expert and thoughtful tutoring.
