About Letha H.
With a performance degree from the University of Georgia, teaching certification from Georgia State and over 25 years of professional teaching experience, I am able to offer my students a diverse range of instructional resources.
Please note: While my traveling location is listed as a 10 mile radius from 30314, on the weekends I am also available in the Smyrna and East Cobb areas.
*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons include a warmup, music theory work, vocal or instrumental technique and then a vast selection of song repertoire to support new ideas in both technique and theory. Students are directed to watch or listen to examples of master performances in their field of studies. Clear weekly goals are made between lessons and I am always encouraging! Whatever life throws at you during the week doesn't have to stop your studies cold- we will come up with a plan that fits your lifestyle.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a small Protools setup with microphones and a Kurzwell keyboard. I like to be able to go online for some resources.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I regularly use the internet in lessons as well as standard published educational texts.
*** Specialties ***
I have been told that I am especially good at helping people make the jump from playing by rote to reading from the page. In vocal instruction, I am familiar with three schools of technique: the psycho-imagery school, the "anatomical" school, and the Italian "open throat" approach. My background in acting also contributes basic vocal projection techniques to vocal training. I am comfortable with all genres of music, including pop, rock, soul, R&B, gospel, jazz and opera. In instrumental studies, I am a woodwind doubler, reading fluently and transposing on-the-spot . As a jazz and gospel artist I improvise primarily on the flute and saxophone. My piano skills are equivalent to a second-year college piano major. I can improvise accompaniments as well as read piano scores. In addition to being a certified teacher in Georgia, I attained national certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2004.

Fantastic. Great teacher. Engaging, fun daughter really enjoyed her leason

Went very well- my son is so excited and spent the evening practicing his new skills!

Incredible Teacher!!!

Letha was a great teacher. She really knows what she is doing and is super patient when teaching adults. I would highly recommend taking lessons with her she is amazing!

My daughter has truly enjoyed having Letha as a clarinet teacher. She has been able to strengthen and improve my daughter's tone, scales, posture, transitions between low to higher notes, and overall technique. This has led to her improvement and enjoyment of the school band. Letha's teaching style has fit well including providing positive feedback on the spot. 'Having Letha come to our house is also a great benefit to our schedule.

Letha, a great teacher.

Letha H is my 8 year old second piano teacher. What a difference maker... She is excellent at keeping my son on task but also interested and wanting to learn more every week. Thank you Letha.
