Teaching since:
July 1997

I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where at an early age was exposed to several
kinds of music through my parents and surroundings. I attended the American School of Rio de Janeiro, where I joined many bands and explored many different instruments.
I started to study music (theory, acoustic nylon guitar and bass) more seriously, and
soon was performing locally with many artists from Brazil. After high school, I
decided to pursue my music studies further and was accepted to the University of Miami
School of Music. I studied theory, piano, arranging, and composition. I focused my
studies on jazz and also studied upright bass and classical with Dr. Lucas Drew. After
attending University of Miami from 1989 until 1994, I started touring, performing, and
recording with many artists. I also started teaching music then. Here is some of the work I have done since then:
2012 - toured with Brazilian legend Dori Caymmi
• 2011 - toured with Gary Valenciano and Martin Nievera (#1
artistists from the Phillippines)
• 2010 – produced CD’s for Nobresil (In Brasil), Mari Nobre and
others
• 2009 – performed/toured with jazz singer Kevyn Lettau
• 2008 – toured internationally with Rafael Amargo’s Flamenco
Dance Co. Top Flamenco dance group from Spain
• 2007 – performed/toured with Sergio Mendes Brasil 2007
worldwide
• 2006 – performed on Jay Leno’s Tonight show with Sergio Mendes
and the Black Eyed Peas
• 2006 – featured in the May issue of Bass Player magazine
• 2006 – recorded on Sergio Mendes’ Grammy awarded CD
“Timeless” on tracks w/Stevie Wonder and Jill Scott and will.i.am (producer)
• 2006 – performed/toured with Sergio Mendes Brasil 2006
worldwide
• 2005 – performed/toured with Sergio Mendes Brasil 2005
worldwide
• 2004 – performed/toured with Sergio Mendes Brasil 2004

*** Lesson Details ***
Music is my passion. Therefore I want to share my knowledge and experiences with the student on a friendly, laid-back environment. I have played many different kinds of music from classical to rock, from jazz to latin, so I can cater to what the student likes. I will design a curriculum specifically for each student, so they can have the most satisfaction and enjoyment from each lesson. One can learn his favorite music and also learn how to navigate on their instrument of choice, be it guitar or bass. If the student wants to step up and learn more challenging facets of music such as theory and reading, that can be done as well!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Various instruments: Top notch Electric and Acoustic Basses, Electric and Acoustic Guitars.
Endorsements include Modulus guitars, Aguilar amplifiers and DR strings

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring my instrument and an amplifier for the elec. bass or guitar, music stand and music.

*** Specialties ***
I am a bass player and composer. I also play guitar and piano, especially for writing purposes.
Styles include Jazz, Brazilian and Latin music, Popular music (Rock, Funk, R&B, Blues, Country). I use the Simandl method for the upright bass.
Since I am from Brazil, I can teach Brazilian music on the guitar and percussion since the guitar comping/pattern is very rhythmic. Methods for the electric bass varies according to the student needs, although I will always try to make them understand the importance of reading and theory ( a little harder with the young kids who "just want to rock").
