Singing with Leela S.

I am a principal artist at the Metropolitan Opera and have sung all over Germany, including the Bavarian State Opera, as a professional soprano. I graduated with my Masters and Professional Studies certificate from the Manhattan School of Music, and my BA from University of California- Los Angeles in classical voice. I believe in healthy singing that starts with proper breath control and connection to the body. I also believe that technique should not be completely separate from musicality and the emotional connection to the music. I provide my students with the tools to warm up the voice in a way that allows the freedom of the voice to come out, while then using that freedom to creatively express whatever he/she wants with his/her voice. Students end up feeling a sense of release when singing in a way that I find healthy and not pushed. I get so much joy out of the joy that my students feel when singing. I also believe that singing has a much deeper psychological aspect to it, more so than other instruments, because the instrument is within you. As a teacher, I am extremely patient, compassionate, good-humored and like to really get to know my students because I think it helps bring out their expression and their voice.
