Hi there! My name is Lea Detlefs, and here is my musical history. I was given a violin at the age of seven by my grandfather, and between him and a neighbor who happened to be a retired violist from the Detroit Symphony, my musical education began. I've been playing violin for 26 years now, and viola for 20. I studied Violin Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with Gregory Fulkerson for one year, and later returned home to study violin at the University of Michigan School of Music under Yehonatan Berick and Gabriel Bolkosky. After graduating in 2010 I became a member of the Dearborn Symphony, and was a frequent substitute for the Toledo and Plymouth Symphonies. I've has attended numerous summer music festivals, including Meadowmount School of Music in New York, Domaine Forget in Quebec, and the Phoenix Phest! in Ann Arbor, MI. I also went to Mark O'Connor's fiddle camp in Tennesseeand fell in love with Appalachian fiddling. Since coming to Austin, I've played with the Round Rock Symphony, and am also a member of the prog-rock band "Fortune My Foe". I taught for 8 years in Ann Arbor and 6 years in Austin, giving lessons in classical violin, viola, and fiddle to students from ages five to adult. I've completed the following Suzuki teacher training courses: Every Child Can!, Suzuki Book I, Suzuki Book II, Suzuki Book IV, and Practicum with pedagogue Ronda Cole (April 2015).
