I've worked with Broadway actors, amateur adults, kids of all ages and with renowned theatre companies such as TADA!, Brooklyn Children's Theatre, STEPS on Broadway and The Neighborhood Playhouse for 20 yrs, teaching students how to reach their full potential as musical theatre performers.

I teach private on-line musical theatre coaching lessons to kids, age 7 and up, and adults of any age. If you are looking for a musical theatre teacher/coach, you've come to right place! Most coaches in musical theater are primarily pianists and don't have a background in voice, acting or performing. I have a background, not only as a musical director/pianist, but as a professional singer and actor in opera and musical theatre as well as teaching music, both privately and in classes for many years.

I focus on 3 main things:
1) your voice...teaching you to sing with a well-produced, flexible, expressive and healthy tone...
2) your musicianship...sightsinging, learning to understand and how to achieve what the composer has put on the page...and
3) your acting...finding the heart of the song and developing the character, interpretation, singing the words, the dos and don'ts of performing and freeing the body and face to express what is needed.

We'll build your repertoire, prepare you for auditions and develop your skills. Whether you're looking for a career in musical theatre or just love singing and performing it, I can help you be the best you can be! I look forward to hearing from you!

Lawrence is a great coach for musical theater singing. When I was in the 5th grade I had an audition for this school called ppas, which is a preforming arts school. I love musical theater and I was taking lessons in neighborhood playhouse. Lawrence was one of the vocal coaches there so my mom got him as a private coach. He was really helpful in teaching me how to sing, he picked a really good song for me and he helped me a lot. I got into the school, and I probably wouldn't have if it weren't for him. We also got him as a coach for my laguardia audition, and although my voice had changed a lot he helped pick the right song and we worked on it. He helped me get in there as well. Would defininetly reccomend.

My daughter has been taking Musical Theater with Lawrence for 7 years now. Lily has grown as a performer under his instruction. Lily describes his classes as fun, fun and fun. Lawrence is an exceptional teacher who provides his students with a supportive and collaborative environment and where he nurtures their creativity. His love of Musical Theater definitely shines through in his classes. He's great!

Lawrence Rush is an inspiring and gifted teacher. My daughter took her first musical theater class with Lawrence when she was nine years old at the renowned Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC, and she has been a dedicated student of musical theater ever since. Lawrence created an atmosphere in class that was safe, fun, and joyful, and he made the kids feel that no idea was a bad one. Among the many classes that my daughter took with Lawrence, she particularly loved the elective where her class write and acted in their own original play. Lawrence managed to lead his students through a process that was both rigorous and exhilarating, culminating in one of the high points of my daughters young life. I am also an arts educator, and I know a gem of a teacher when I see one. Lawrence is truly one of those rare teachers who leave a lasting deeply positive impact on children, and I could not recommend him more enthusiastically.

Lawrence was introduced to me 6 years ago. I immediately liked his smile, personality, and enthusiasm. He brings his opera training and musical theatre experience to the students. Lawrence challenges the students and gives them some theory training in addition to singing. The main focus of his classes at The Neighborhood Playhouse is Acting a Song. He finds musical theatre pieces that allow for emotions and physical actions. He's well liked by the students, with many asking if he'll be their teacher the following year. I highly recommend Lawrence to coach theory, singing, and vocal technique!

Lawrence's knowledge of vocal technique is extraordinary. I hired him to music direct for us at Brooklyn Children's Theatre and he has taught for us for five years. He is wonderful with children. He is attentive and kind and has numerous tricks up his sleeve to bring out the best in his students. One of Lawrence's greatest gifts is as a song writer. He has written numerous musicals for us and is the king of power ballads that make you cry. Our students love working with Lawrence.
