Greetings!
My name is Lauren Spaulding; I love teaching, learning, and sharing my music ... but, I also love rock climbing, my awesome Bengal cat, and exploring!
After many dedicated hours of hard work, I graduated from the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory with my BM in performance, my MM in Performance, and a Post-Masters degree in orchestral studies. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with, and share with my students the knowledge of today's most renowned musicians. This is important because ... as my favorite teacher once said ... "greatness comes by first eliminating the bad [habits]" -- therefore, starting your musical adventure with strong habits is an important step in creating a foundation for future success!
I understand that not every student is preparing for a Conservatory! So, whether you seek a serious musical path or the simple joy of learning an instrument -- I strive to teach pedagogical and musicial elegance ...enjoyably. š

Bio:
Lauren Spaulding, a Texas native, received her BM and MM in Viola performance, working under the tutelage of Professor Peter Slowik at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Geraldine Walther of the TakĆ”cs Quartet. As a soloist, Spaulding has worked with and learned from many notable performers including Nobuko Imai, Kim Kashkashian, Antoine Tamestit, Lawerence Power, Pinchas Zukerman, Dimitri Murrath, James Dunham, and Yizhak Schotten. Additionally, Spauldingās musical career has been heavily influenced by her love for collaboration, leading her to study chamber music under the extensive guidance of Karen Ritcher, the TakĆ”cs Quartet, the Cavani Quartet, and with Darrett Adkins at the Juilliard School of Music, Roger Tapping of the Juilliard String Quartet, the Ying Quartet, the Pro Arte Quartet, and the Orpheus Ensemble. In 2012, Spauldingās Quartet was invited to perform at the White House for President Obama to commemorate American composers as a āChampion of Changeā. Spaulding continues to use her love for chamber music to advocate for under-represented composers, young neuro-atypical musicians, and works with Kim Kashkashian and her team as a Co-Chapter head for the āMusic for Foodā initiative, fighting food insecurity.
Spaulding is based in NYC & Denver where she is a member of Meredith Monkās performance ensemble, a regular with the Colorado Symphony, and recording artist with award winning studios such as āFound Objects Musicā in NYC. Laurenās playing can be heard on āSocial Dilemmaā & āModern Loveā Season 2. Lauren performs with Pro Musica Colorado, Boulder Bach, So & So New York, the Playground String Quartet, and is the Principal Violist & Festival Artist for Colorado MahlerFest alongside Jorja Fleezanis, Erika Eckert, and Perry Karp. Spaulding has performed chamber music with members of the Cavani Quartet, the Tesla Quartet, the Ying Quartet, the TakĆ”cs Quartet, the Pro Arte Quartet, and alongside members of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Houston Symphony, the London Symphony Orchestra, the San Francisco Ballet, the RTĆ National Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, the Minnesota Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the English Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra.
Spaulding is a current finalist for the āMusic International Grand Prixā solo competition held in Carnegie Hall April of 2021, and has recently placed first in the Reno Popās Concerto Competition. Spaulding has been invited, for summer 2021, to be a featured artist at Yellow Barn with Kim Kashkashian, and a featured artist at Virtuoso Bel Canto with Nobuko Imai.

Lauren is a Violist in the Mile High String Quartet. From the day she started playing with our group, she's elevated our group to the next level of musical performance. If you're looking for a teacher with great chamber music skills, she is a great resource. She is a great asset to our group.

Lauren is excellent with my son, Alex. She is always professional but fun during lessons and is able to easily relate to a 13 year old! Alex's skills and motivation continues to improve and he currently plans to audition for Youth Orchestra with Lauren's encouragement.

Ms. Lauren has really helped my daughter improve her skills as a young violist in just a short period of time. She creates a positive and fun environment for learning and each week my daughter is super excited to go in and "show off" her progress to Ms. Lauren. I would highly reccomend Ms. Lauren as music teacher for anyone! She also excels at prompt communication and as a busy parent I cannot describe how much my family has appreciated that.
