Hi! My name is Lauren, and I am so very honored to begin your musical journey with you!
I began taking classical piano lessons at age 4, and by 12 years old I was singing with internationally-celebrated choirs in Michigan. In 2014 I earned my Bachelor’s of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Studies in Voice from the University of Michigan. Currently, I am a student at New York University, pursuing my Masters of Music in Songwriting and Composition.
I have maintained coaching for voice, theatre and piano since the age of 18, and have worked as an assistant music director for an internationally acclaimed non-profit youth arts organization, specializing in programs for young artists ages 11-18.
I have a knowledge and proficiency in a variety of genres, including Jazz, Classical, R&B, and Soul music, and am confident that together we can reach your music theory, composition, or performance goals. Ready? Let’s go!
There is a healing quality to music. Created from the heart. Forged by the soul. Nurtured by a gentle spirit. I had the wonderful pleasure of working with Lauren Scales in a teacher/student relationship last summer. She was my voice teacher. And though I am many years older...it was like being born again....like a child learning to take those first steps. I had been going through several health challenges. But my sessions with Lauren gave me a new vitality.I was healed of many of my situations through working with her. She inspired such a level of confidence. Incredibly talented, wise, patient, joyful and she most certainly knows her stuff. I learned breathing techniques, poise, how to shape my voice, warm up exercises, singing through various ranges and we even had the chance to cover basics in music theory. I love piano and voice. Lauren gave me the stepping stones to pursue these gifts even further. I'm not a professional singer nor musician. But at the end of each session, I felt like I was. I can't even begin to describe my appreciation for her taking the time to work with me as she did. Every time I hear her perform, I am deeply moved. It's more than just talent. She allows her personality to shine through. She paints a landscape with her voice and with her working the ivory keys of the piano that can move one to a higher level of joy. In saying that she knows her stuff....this is more than just words. Her knowledge of music and being able to shared that knowledge in a teaching environment is beyond amazing. I was lucky and supremely blessed to have crossed paths with Lauren. As far as I am concerned, she saved my life. Because she helped me to discover my hidden gifts. And to not be afraid to stretch further. I believe that there is greatness in her, that maybe even Lauren hasn't fully realized. She has that "certain something"...not easily described, yet always felt. Being that she was exposed to music at such a very young age in conversations with her makes sense as to why her presence is the way it is. She is awesome and powerful. Sometimes a whisper can move the world. Bring out the sunshine. Make you want to live again. I would highly recommend Lauren Scales in whatever direction she chooses. And those who are quiet enough to pick up on this lovely spirit....will discover something remarkable. Yes, I am most certainly blessed.+ Read More
At the first lesson Lauren took time to discuss with me what I wanted to learn/what i hoped to get from our lessons. She then discusssed the lesson plan. I left my first lesson feeling I had learned something. As a speaker I took lessons to help me with voice control, breathing and voice projection. I didn't think i was a singer so being able to learn to hit a good note would be a bonus. I could see progress with each lesson. Lauren always gave me something to work on between lessons. I learned more than I had hoped with improved pronunciation and I could actually hear the improvement. Lauren was very professional and knowledegable. She made the lessons fun and I enjoyed learning from her. I highly recommend her.+ Read More
