    About Lauren W.

I am very passionate about teaching students how to improve their singing abilities as well as their playing abilities on the piano. As a reflective teacher, I strive to ensure every student has a positive experience while they are taking piano and vocal lessons with me. I always take each student's individual background into account and plan each lesson around the student's needs and goals. A typical lesson would consist of warm-ups, a technique piece, 2 performance pieces, and theory homework. I believe if a student is to become a master musician they need to have a well-rounded music experience. I graduated from Susquehanna University Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis and Keyboard Concentrate. While there, I was classically trained by Dr. Naomi Niskala who studied at Yale School of Music, Dr. Kimberly Councill who studied at The Ohio State University, and Mrs. Judith White who studied at Susquehanna University. While at Susquehanna, I privately taught piano and vocal lessons to students ranging in age from 5 to 78 years old. Since graduating, I have been teaching group piano lessons in both urban and suburban settings. I truly believe anyone can learn to sing or play the piano and in the process, I structure my lessons to ensure every student has the best possible musical experience. I look forward to meeting you!  *** Lesson Details *** When taking piano lessons, I like to structure each lesson with a variety of activities. By the end of each lesson, students should feel accomplished and motivated to work during the following week of practice. I tend to be laid back however my lessons are structured to allow for student achievement. In my previous studio, parents told me I was flexible and consistent when it came to lessons. *** Travel Equipment *** I will buy their lesson books for them and ask for reimbursement in return. I find that parents/guardians tend to get the incorrect books. I would also ask that students provide an acoustic or 88-key electric piano, piano bench, chair for me, and a quiet atmosphere to have a lesson in. *** Specialties *** While attending Susquehanna University, I was classically trained on the piano and feel most comfortable teaching that style.
