Learn Cello from an Experienced, Certified Cellist

My goals for my cello and piano students include the development of effective technique and musicality, as well as focusing on the profound beauty that humans can create and celebrate. Growth, both musical and personal, happens within a positive learning environment and with constructive feedback, in small moments and in large, and with successes and failures. Effective music education happens in an environment of mutual respect and connection. While it goes without saying that learning an instrument should be enjoyable, it is also hard work that is immensely rewarding. To learn anything is to be vulnerable and open to criticism, feedback, and new ideas. This can only happen in a space where feedback is honest, kind, and engaged. Physically healthy playing technique is imperative to the improvement of one’s playing, as well as continuing to play for a long time without damage to the body. It is my mission to help my students develop and maintain healthy habits so they avoid long-term health issues. Success should come from using the body effectively and without excessive tension. Lessons will focus on the development of skill in playing the cello or piano; not just learning the concepts of the music but putting them into action. With a strong fundamental background (scales, etudes, exercises, and repertoire), students will be able to develop their own voice through melodies and harmonies and learn to express themselves in a thoughtful way.

Hi there! I studied B.S. Music Education and B.A. Music Performance at Kutztown, studying cello with Dr. Marie-Aline Cadieux. I also served as the Vice President of the Kutztown University Chamber Players from 2019-2021 and as the Vice President of the KU Orchestra from 2018-2020. I performed with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Festival Orchestra during the 2018 season and was accepted to perform with the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony Orchestra during the 2020 summer season, which was unfortunately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Spring of 2019, I was selected as one of two students to study chamber music under the professors of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece. There, I worked with Apostolos Chandrakis, the principal cellist of the State Symphony of Thessaloniki. I also am a counselor at KU’s Summer Chamber Music Festival, where I have studied cello and chamber music under Daniel Gaisford. In October 2019, I performed the music of Dinos Constantinides with the KU Chamber Players in Carnegie Weill Hall and can be heard in the same ensemble on Centaur Records playing Constantinides’ works, which will be released soon. I was also a regular On-Air Personality at Kutztown University Radio, where I was Programming Director during my junior year. In my free time, I enjoy reading, crafting, and both indoor and outdoor gardening.

Due to Covid, I started my cello lessons online. I am pleased to report, that Laura was right for me, a semi-retiree. Her love for cello and for teaching came through. In addition to all her life skills and expertise, I recommend Laura for adult cello education! Thanks, Laura!
