A Midwesterner at heart, I've lived in Minneapolis for the past seven years, involving myself in the local music scene. I started out my musical life taking piano lessons at the age of nine. Realizing a passion for music, but desiring something less rigid, I switched to guitar lessons at the age of 15. Instantly falling in love with the instrument, I've been playing for the past 14 years. In addition to my love of guitar, I also pursued an education in classical voice, attending and receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Illinois Wesleyan University. My participation in the independent music scene in Minneapolis and my classical training while at IWU has developed a diverse and exciting style of music performance and instruction. I like to keep things laid back and fun but I have the knowledge and experience to help you reach and exceed your musical goals!
*** Lesson Details ***
When you decide to take lessons from me, you ultimately get to decide where you go with your lessons. I provide a strong background in music theory, helpful exercises to practice at home, and weekly goals to keep you learning and improving. But when it comes to what type of songs you want to play, that's really up to you! Beginners in guitar can expect to learn from the Happy Traum Basic Guitar Lessons book series. Not every method works for every student, so there would always be room to try something new and exciting!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Computer w.recording equipment, lessons in dining room, guitars, keyboard
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the guitar.
*** Specialties ***
The genre I specialize in is singer/songwriter, so there is an emphasis on singing and playing the instrument simultaneously. My focus in college, though, was classical voice, with an interest in contemporary and baroque literature.
