25+ enjoyable years teaching music to hundreds and hundreds of students. My specialty is teaching the great songs of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, RUSH, Journey, Motown, Pink Floyd, Clapton, Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel--there is just so much great music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. It never gets old!

It's helpful for a student to learn the names of the musical notes, how chords are made, and how scales work. And of course, each student has his or her own technique to develop. How are you supposed to hold the pick? What should I do with my thumb when playing a chord? How do you fingerpick?

If you love music I encourage you to learn to play an instrument. It's awesome!

About Lance M.

I fell in love with the great music of the 60s, 70s and 80s and I am *still* love that music! My speciality is teaching the great songs of The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, RUSH, Journey, Yes, Pink Floyd, The Who, Motown, Paul McCartney, Eagles, Simon & Garfunkel-- all the great songwriters from that period.

I teach electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and electric bass. If you love music I'll be happy to help you learn at any level or any style.

I graduated from GIT in Hollywood, California in 1990. I have been lucky to spend time around some amazing musicians: Les Paul, Andy Summers, Allan Holdsworth, Al Di Meola, John Entwistle, Billy Sheehan, Paul Gilbert, Robben Ford, Albert Lee, Alan Parsons and many others.

I am currently working on an album with Kenny Aronoff on the drums.

Lance was my guitar teacher for over 8 years. Lance is the best of the best! He can play any style of music and caters his lessons towards your interests. More importantly, he teaches you how to learn on your own. Lessons with Lance provided me with the skills to evolve as a person - with and without a guitar in my hand. Highly recommend!

Lance was my guitar instructor for 5 years. I was brand new when I began, and Lance was extremely helpful and methodical with his teaching. He picked the first few songs I learned based on his decades of experience, and then from then on, I could either chose my own songs to learn or pick a suggestion of his. I learned countless Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Aerosmith songs. I also learned a few songs in their genres as well. Lance is quite proficient in being able to teach a song from just listening to it, which allows him flexibility to teach you almost anything you’d like.

Lance is also amazing at getting you to think about music and your life in ways that you may not have previously done. Lessons could be as theoretical or hands-on as I wished, and I learned a great bit about different ways to view the world from time I spent conversing with Lance.

I absolutely recommend Lance to anyone for his professionalism, genuine attitude, skill, and flexibility.

Lance is the best guitar teacher I could've ever asked for. He knows exactly how to teach you as you can tell he has a lot of experience instructing. He is very good at getting rid of bad habits quickly and will teach you whatever you want to learn and teach it at any level. He is a very good guitar player himself and can teach form, rhythm, and music theory very well. I've been learning from him for 11 years and I still learn more to this day!

I started learning how to play bass guitar at my first lesson with Lance, and continued lessons with him for almost 3 years. Lance is an incredible teacher and extremely knowledgeable in all facets of music. He is very insightful and cares about his students, so there is never a dull moment learning to play an instrument with Lance! Highly recommended.

Not only was Lance was my first guitar instructor, but after 20 years of playing guitar, I can honestly say he was the best teacher I've ever had. From the very first lessons, Lance focused on musicality and mastering the fundamentals and brought the best out of me by making learning fun and relevant to my musical interests.

In my first few years of study, the ear training, music theory, and repertoire I learned, and the ability to transcribe and play by ear, are the the same skills that got me though music school, a masters degree at Berklee College of Music, and the role as a guitarist in the Navy Band. In fact, I used one of the songs I learned with Lance, "SRV," by Eric Johnson, in my Navy audition.

Take lessons with Lance, you'll be happy you did.
