Guitar with Kyle S.

Hello! My name is Kyle, and I've been a guitarist for over 20 years. My professional career began in earnest in 2008, the same time as when I began studying jazz performance at Portland State University. I've found myself playing guitar for weddings, corporate events, dive bars, musical theater, studio recordings, rock bands, rap bands, jazz bands, funk bands... I even faked my way through a country gig once or twice! Playing in these various capacities, along with some rigorous studying in and out of academia, has left me with a strong knowledge of music theory and guitar technique, and the versatility to apply that knowledge and ability to a wide variety of musical situations. Before I ever performed professionally, I was teaching lessons while still in high school- sometimes to kids younger than me, sometimes to kids my own age, and even an occasional adult. While my teaching approach and capability has increased substantially since then, my enjoyment of vicariously experiencing moments of progress and revelation with my students has stayed the same. I've been told I'm a natural teacher, and I consider it one of the greatest compliments I've ever received. It is my hope that you will agree- I look forward to booking our first lesson!
