I hold a Ph.D in Computer Science and MS degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics. As a university professor and lecturer, I have taught several courses in computer science, computer programming, web development, event-driven programming, data structures, algorithms, and discrete mathematics at the university level for more than 15 years. My experience also includes working as a graduate teaching assistant in both Computer Science and Mathematics. I continue to apply my experience and skills in online tutoring environments. My web development courses have involved basic web design (HTML, CSS), client-side web programming (JavaScript), and server-side web programming (PHP, SQL). Programming languages I have taught include Java, C++, Visual Basic, and AppInventor. Java is the programming language with which I have the most experience. I continue to learn new topics, programming languages, and web technologies to widen the array of subjects I am able to teach. I enjoy writing a program or designing a webpage and then watching it come to life. My teaching methods involve detailed step-by-step explanations, working through examples, and live coding and problem solving. I am also skilled in tracking down errors in student programs, as well as suggesting ways to improve coding style and organization. The teaching settings in which I work best are one-on-one interactions with students and online environments. I live in Hickory, NC and I have enjoyed regularly visiting the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. I am eager to work with students online or in-person to facilitate their learning and to encourage them to do their best. Contact me for more information and to schedule a lesson!
