With experience playing traditional classical music (solo, orchestral, and chamber), modern classical music, tango, choro, and hip-hop, I have a wide variety of experience to bring to flute lessons. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University. In pre- (and hopefully post) Covid, I performed with the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra, Um Mundo Choro, and the Tango Tigers, as well as other groups in the greater Seattle area. Through flute lessons I encourage: focused work, creativity in problem solving, and understanding music theory in a way that can be applied directly to the music we are working on. Students will use a method book (after our first meeting I will assign an appropriate method book), we'll choose solo works that makes sense for the goals we are working toward, and I always challenge students with improvisation or memory assignments. Materials needed for online lessons: working flute metronome/tuner (these can be found for free as apps on your smartphone!) music stand for home practice notebook for notes and keeping track of assignments working printer ability to order a few books from the internet or your local music store. I am able to work with students aged 8 (3rd grade) and up. If you come with an open attitude and are ready to learn, we will get it done!
