Powerful Singing Lessons from an Expert for Multipassionate Singers

This category of singing is listed under my profile for singers who are unsure about the genre of music they wish to pursue, or who may want to pursue more than one at the same time. My studio focuses on operatic and classical voice, with some reach into musical theater. I also offer limited voice coaching in other genres like screamo and metal with focus on healthy voice production and safety.

COVID has changed the singing game, and I like to believe that it opened the opportunity to sing to those who otherwise wouldn't try it. I hope more people find joy in these moments of isolation through creating music from their homes! I want to dispel the myth that only a select few are "gifted" with beautiful voices. Singing is like a sport; it is a skill requiring refined muscular coordination, which anyone can improve with practice and focused instruction. My teaching experience encompasses students of all ages and abilities. I enjoy working with students across a variety of musical genres with an emphasis on healthy, sustainable technique. My specialty is in classical voice, with a focus in opera and art song. I get a deep feeling of satisfaction from watching my students achieve their personal singing goals, and have sent many on to receive top ratings at vocal competitions and college music scholarships. *** Lesson Details *** I encourage my students to set their expectations high, and then provide the tools to reach those goals over time. I love to work with musicians of all levels, and hope to inspire curiosity and intelligent risk-taking. Repertoire varies depending on your musical interests and technical goals. I am comfortable teaching and performing folk song, art songs in German, French and Italian, and operatic arias, in addition to musical coaching in popular music styles. We will choose music together to find pieces that will aid your vocal development and that you enjoy singing. *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons are offered both in person in downtown SF, and online. There is a keyboard, music stand, rehearsal rooms, and seating for parents as needed. *** Specialties *** My focus of my undergraduate and Master's studies was in operatic vocal performance, as well as a Master's degree and Fellowship training in voice therapy (SLP). I pride myself on providing a comprehensive vocal education to singers of all styles and levels of experience.

Kristen is great, she gives useful exercises to do at home and pushes you just hard enough. She really tailors the lessons for the student.

I love Kristen! She's so good at explaining the most confusing things about singing technique (which for a beginner is a lot). She's very patient and it's heartwarming when she gets excited about the times I do something right. I trust Kristen with my voice and I like how she encourages me to do hard but fun repertoire. Would definitely recommend! P.S. Her voice is absolutely beautiful. You know you have a good teacher when she demonstrates something and you think, "I want to sound like that."
