In my seven years of teaching, my students have achieved placement in local youth orchestras and have been selected for concertmaster/principal positions in their school orchestras.
I structure my lessons based on the student's age, level, and personal goals, though I believe in the importance of setting a solid technical foundation and strengthening each student's inherent musical ability.

Teaching since:

Music surrounds us in our daily lives. Learning an instrument will enhance your ability to appreciate and understand it, leading to a greater enjoyment of life!
My priority in teaching violin is to acheive a balance of positive reinforcement and challenging, yet enjoyable new material. I emphasize proper technique and posture in order to avoid injury and promote an efficient and beautiful tone production.
I have been teaching violin since 2008 and love seeing my students grow as people and musicians. My students have successfully auditioned into local youth orchestras and held leadership positions in their school orchestras. With a systematic, flexible curriculum which introduces new skills at the appropriate time, my teaching method sets my students up for success, whether they are 4 year old children, school aged students, or adult amateurs.
I received my Master's degree in violin performance from DePaul University and am registered teacher of Suzuki books 1, 2, and 3. I am a believer in the Suzuki philosophy that every student can acheive if provided with the right environment. I specialize in setting a solid foundation for beginning students. Having developed my own career as a professional performing musician, I also know the kind of training it takes for students to reach an advanced level and I am comfortable working with advanced students who are continuing their violin education.
For younger students, involving the parent is an important part of my teaching. I highly recommend that students 8 and younger have a parent observe each lesson so that they can properly assist daily practice sessions.
I certainly welcome the opportunity to work with adult students. It is a great joy to be able to help someone learn the instrument they always wanted to play.
Most students attend lessons in my apartment located in Uptown, Chicago. However, I am willing to travel to your location if it is within a 4 mile radius of me. Do not hesitate to send me a message if you have any questions!
*Cancellation policy: I adhere to the policy which requires 24 hours notice for rescheduled lessons.*

Kiyoe has been teaching my 6-yr-old son violin for 4 months. She is calm, patient, encouraging, organized in her teaching method, adapts easily to his needs throughout the lesson, and has helped him make great progress. She is always on time, polite, and was able to accommodate the occasional schedule change. I highly recommend her, especially for young students.

Kiyoe is such an amazing teacher. She is extremely talented, personable, professional, and patient. The way she communicates is so helpful. Kiyoe never only told me what I did wrong and how to fix it, but she also pointed out all of the positives. She encourages you to want to become a better musician and I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is looking to take lessons.

My 2 children took violin lessons from Kiyoe when they were 7 years old and 10 years old. Kiyoe is very knowledgeable and have excellent teaching method. Kids enjoy taking lessons with Kiyoe. Kiyoe made the lesson interesting, and at the same time, Kiyoe can be firm if needed without sacrificing the fun of taking lessons. Now both of them end up in the orchestra, one in high school and one in junior high. I highly recommend Kiyoe to anyone who plans to take violin lesson.

I highly recommend any violin student of any age in the Chicago area to contact Kiyoe for lessons! She is an excellent violinist herself and, what is of equal importance, a wonderful person and teacher. If anyone knows the in-and-outs of the fiddle it's her! She is patient and warm-hearted, also very organized and knows how to achieve results - for herself as well as for her students (who love her). Any student, whether young or already intermediate or advanced players, can learn tons from Kiyoe and will be glad to be under her guidance!

Kiyoe taught at my music school in California before moving to Chicago. I absolutely hated to see her go. She is an amazing teacher and an amazing person. Her parents are good friends of mine and teach music with me at Chapman University. Kiyoe has grown up surrounded be great musicians and teachers and has become one herself. She is also a wonderful person and extremely professional and easy to work with. I wish her the best in her new life in Chicago. I know she will do great things.

Kiyoe was our son Dillon's first "professional" violin teacher. She made him fall in love with playing the violin as well as helping him to advance his music skills (site reading, note-reading, advanced music techniques etc. ). Our son is now a high school football player who still makes time for his violin lessons/practices because of the love for music that Kiyoe helped instill in him. She has a quiet/positive teaching style with firm expectations that get excellent results!

I really enjoyed having Kiyoe as a violin teacher. She is gentle, yet firm in her teaching style. She helps me be a better musician by expanding my skills in sight reading, challenging me to play in 3rd, 4th, and 5th positions, and “fine-tuning” the quality of my playing with subtle changes in my posture or bowing and fingering techniques. Attending one of Kiyoe’s concerts, I can see she has a real love for violin performance and she strives to impart and share the same music appreciation with her students.
