I am a graduate of classical voice and music history at California State University, Long Beach. I have four years of training in classical voice and participation as an ensemble singer for concert choirs, chamber ensembles and vocal jazz. While my main area of singing is in the classical styles, I enjoy singing and learning in the pop and jazz genres in my spare time, as well. I am open to learning and teaching all styles of music. My education in musicology and ethnomusicology has opened me up to the various musical styles around the world which I find captivating, and would love to be involved in educating others about them.
My main goal is to help cultivate and develop healthy singing in any style--helping vocalists understand how to use their voice, find "their" voice and become a well-rounded musician is what I love doing.
I am interested in teaching students who like to sing for a hobby, who are looking for some directed training to improve their voice, as well as students who are looking for training to develop their voice in order to pursue a career or education path in singing.
I have excelled at writing since grade school, and have tutored many students and adults. Areas I have helped with are:
Writing - organization, thesis topics
Grammar - proper syntax and sentence structure
Vocabulary - using reference material to expand verbal knowledge, appropriate to writing level
Research - teaching proper library use, reference works, citations, style guides
Language development - tutoring how to understand and properly use the English language
I have been writing songs for years, working with music teachers and writing teachers to perfect the technique while examining and trying different writing styles and ideas.
I worked as a student assistant at San Joaquin Delta College where I worked with students in the Music Lab, helping them with music theory and writing. Many students needed to write papers for their music appreciation courses so they would come to me for editing and proofreading, as well as for help with thesis topics.
I worked as an Alto section leader from 2011-2013 in both the concert choir and chamber choir at San Joaquin Delta College.
Taking all notes director gives for every section
Listening for mistakes within alto section during rehearsal
Scheduling and running alto sectionals
Working on mistakes, reviewing music, teaching parts in sectionals
Participated as an alto soloist and sang alto in any quartet/octet singing during weekly services.
