I am currently only accepting students interested in specializing in classical guitar.

Over the course of many years, I have taught various styles of guitar to many different types of people. Whether you're interested in learning to play a specific song, or if you've just always wanted to play guitar but weren't sure where to start, I will join you in your journey and help you discover the tools that you need to reach the level that you want.
I help my students figure out and understand how the instrument and their own hands work, so that they are able to get full control of the guitar and play in various styles with ease. I work to make sure as many doors as possible are open to my students, and I leave it up to them to decide which doors they want to walk through.

About Kirk R.

I have been studying music for most of my life and began teaching when I was 16. I have been given the opportunity to learn from some of the best musicians and teachers around. Before relocating to Denver, I regularly gave performances throughout the Cincinnati area, as well as in surrounding states. I earned a bachelors of music in guitar performance at The College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati. While studying there I was able to meet musicians with different approaches to music and broaden my perspective on the way that I played and taught. Since moving to Denver, I have begun graduate studies at the Lamont School of Music.

I have taught students of all ages and skill levels and have been able to watch my students meet goals of all sorts in their lessons. One of the studios that I teach at was also recognized in the category of "Best Music Instruction" by Cincy Magazine.

If you have never picked up an instrument before, I would love to introduce you to the basics of music as well as the guitar. If you have played some guitar, or another instrument, and are looking to hone your skills and maximize your potential, it would be my pleasure to help you along that track.

Kirk was very patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging as he taught me to play a special song on the ukulele for my husband to be. Highly recommend!

Our children have completed about a month with Kirk on classical guitar, and we are very happy at their progress. They both look forward to their classes, which in and of itself says it all about the teacher. We're very happy to continue the journey and instill a life long love of music to them. I am a total beginner. No musical knowledge at all. Kirk is very patient, and is willing to explain things in detail.

Kirk is excellent...I can't emphasize that enough. My daughter is 11 and he is beyond patient with her. He teaches by guiding her and letting her find her own answer. She really likes writing songs so he's supported that in his lessons by using what she comes up with during the week in between for the next lesson, weaving it into what he's teaching her for the day. I also really appreciate how he works on form with her, which is key to being a good guitarist and again it is through example, guiding her , and explaining things in ways that make sense to her. He has a very calm and relaxed demeanor. Also he's in a master's program for music, guitar concentration, so he really knows all aspects of it. I am taking classic guitar lessons once I can afford it. Kirk is one of the best teachers I've worked with and I recommend him for anyone. Thanks, Kirk!

This guy knows what he is talking about. You won't be afraid to tackle a new instrument with Kirk since he makes the process that much easier. I picked up Ukelele in no time with his easygoing instruction!

Kirk has helped me learn to play songs on the ukulele very quickly! I just started a few weeks ago, and I can already play and sing a wide variety of songs in different styles. I have really enjoyed learning ukulele, and Kirk has made it easy and fun.

Kirk was my first guitar teacher, and helped me develop and cultivate my raw desire to play the instrument. His open, laid-back approach and flexible schedule made my learning experience enjoyable. The only complaint I would have, is that Kirk does not really enforce persistence; practicing a phrase or entire piece with me until I get it perfect, but that might just be a personal preference. Overall a patient, enthusiastic, down-to-earth guy who's generally fun to be with, and even more fun to learn guitar with.

Kirk is a great guy and great teacher! I have been working with him for the past couple of years. He is very patient with this old learner. I know he is also good with younger kids who are the age of MY grandchildren. He has great knowledge of the guitar and the skills to be a successful musician. I will miss him as he moves to Denver. Thanks, Kirk!

Wonderful!! He is so patient and kind with teaching my son. We are both looking forward to working with him for a long time. I was skeptical to hire someone I didn't know, but I think we truly found a good fit for a teacher. Thanks so much!!

Excellent teacher! He is helping me with tempo and have taught me new ways of playing the guitar. He cares about hands position in the guitar in order to play the guitar in a comfortable and efficient way. Also, he tells you what you are doing wrong in a very subtle way. You can tell he really enjoys teaching people how to play guitar remembering the basics and showing anyone can play guitar with practice, dedication and passion.

KJ is a great teacher to work with any skill level. From teaching the core of the instrument to polishing up a piece for a concert, KJ can provide the instruction to help you get the most out of your instrument.

I love that the 5-star rating description is "Best instructor ever" because I often tell people that my son's guitar teacher is the best music instructor we have ever had. I have 5 kids, and they have played piano in the past. This year my oldest is taking guitar for the first time. The thing that I love most about KJ is that he doesn't just teach my son how to play the notes -- he teaches him how to play music. There is a big difference between those two, and KJ is helping my son to see the music beyond the notes. KJ does a great job teaching notes, theory, and technique, but he teaches so much more that that as well. I can't say enough good things about KJ.

Kirk worked with my daughter, who is eleven, for a little over a year. He was always friendly and professional and made the lessons fun for her. He was great at balancing my daughter's free spirit with structure and discipline. He really brought out the best in her and she looked forward to her lessons from week to week. We are both very sad that Kirk has to move, but want to make sure that everyone knows how wonderful he is!! I would highly recommend Kirk to anyone looking for a guitar instructor.
