My name is Kim V., and I'm the author of four traditionally published novels with HarperCollins and Scholastic. I love helping fellow writers improve their craft and move closer to their publishing dreams. I will critique your work prior to our virtual lesson, leaving detailed, big-picture feedback. Then, we will schedule a virtual chat to discuss your notes in more detail. I will also be happy to answer any questions you have about the project, or about the writing and publishing process in general. My personal publishing history has focused on middle grade novels (magical realism and issue-driven contemporary fantasy), but I am happy to work with authors writing in any genre or for any age group. Let's make your publishing dreams come true! 30-minute lessons include a first-page or query letter critique. 45-minute lessons include a five-page manuscript critique. 60-minute lessons include a ten-page manuscript critique. 90-minute lessons include a fifteen-page manuscript critique. Pages should be submitted in Microsoft Word format and follow standard formatting (i.e. 12-point font, double-spaced).

Kim is at once kind and critical. Her feedback is detailed and her demeanor encouraging. I am so glad to have had her eyes on my work-in-progress. With her vast publishing experience, I feel much better moving forward with edits. She also has great insight on what agents and editors are looking at. I highly recommend!

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization, is one of the largest existing organizations for writers and illustrators. It is the only professional organization specifically for those individuals writing and illustrating for children and young adults in the fields of children’s literature, magazines, film, television, and multimedia. Our mission is to support the creation and availability of quality children’s books around the world. We accomplish this by fostering a vibrant community of individuals who bring books for young readers to the public including writers, illustrators, translators, editors, publishers, agents, librarians, educators, booksellers, bloggers, enthusiasts and others. We provide education and support for these individuals and the community through our awards, grants, programs and events. We strive to increase the quality and quantity of children’s books in the marketplace, and act as a consolidated voice for writers and illustrators of children's books worldwide.
