Hi, my name is Kim but over the past 9 years of training performers in my academy (The Corcoran Academy of Fine Arts) I've become known to my "kids" as Mama L. Having been on stage performing for 50 years has given me the upper hand in how to train the next generation of performers! I love what I do and, judging by the success of my students, I'd say I'm very good at it! Please check out my photo gallery of past and present students. My students consistently score major roles in their school productions and I make sure I'm there to cheer them on!
My vocal training covers both classic voice and musical theatre. My acting lessons combine Adler, Meisner and my own observational technique. I have a sure fire method of preparation for auditions that, if followed completely, has never failed me or my students.
Why should you come to me? Because I'll take you right where you are and grow your skills on YOUR terms! Your lessons are different than other student's lessons because they're designed to suit YOU! You can't help but catch my excitement during your lesson because we have so much fun! I'm looking forward to seeing you soon!
When parents found out I was training my son and daughter to get the leads they were getting in high school I was bombarded with requests to take on more kids. Thus The Corcoran Academy of Fine Arts was born! (Corcoran is my maiden name!) For almost 10 years I've trained kids for everything from fun in Chorus and local theatre to kids who are now well into college training for careers on the stage and/or screen!
I have loved my life of performance and now I'm raising up the next generation! My students rank among the top of their local school theatre programs and score well in college auditions!
As I begin working through TakeLessons I am also beginning to write my second book! Having published my autism book in 2008, sharing with others what I'd done to help my 2 autistic children break all the barriers of the disease, I now feel a book series covering my methodology of acting will benefit those in the craft. With a working title for the series "The Actor's Arsenal" I'm very excited to dive into book #1! Stay tuned for release dates!
For 50 years I've performed in Musical Theatre. TV, Radio, Churches, Guest Artist, Concerts, Resorts, Weddings and Funerals. Having had so many years experience really means I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of performance situations and I train my students to be ready for the unexpected on the stage! My students are trained to react quickly to save the day in any performance situation...a skill everyone needs in life!+ Read More
Kim is an incredible teacher! I learned an incredible amount about acting and the art of the audition from her, and would strongly recommend her to anyone looking for lessons in theatre or voice!
Ms.Lesso (or Momma L as we fondly call her) is an amazing instructor! She has so much experience in the performing arts and has a way with teaching that makes technique more understandable. She just really brings out your inner performer. I was already a fair singer before I joined her academy, but after being with her for less than a year, I had improved so much! Now, after +3 years with her, I nearly have a 4 octave range and we are working to get me to the full 4. She is just a great instructor and she makes you feel like part of her family.+ Read More
