Crocheting

Levels Taught:
Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
Are you a beginner who has never touched a hook or do you need help following a pattern? Do you need help finishing a project? Do you want to make gifts or special things for yourself? Have you seen a project on Ravelry or Pinterest that you just love but are afraid it is beyond your skill level? Don't worry, you can call on me anytime to get you through a tough spot. I will even help you find, fix and prevent mistakes. Crochet with confidence.

Work on a project of your choice or I will help you find something you will like. Be inspired, improve your skills and learn to read patterns.

I am familiar with every crochet technique. If you find something I do not know, I will master it before your lesson (except Freeform.) I am also a Published Designer, CYC Certified instructor, over 9 years teaching experience.

Students are expected to provide all tools and materials but I will help you find what you need for your project. Recommended duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes.

Teaching since:
March 1984

For creative people and makers, crafting is like going to the gym. You will find great fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment if you set aside time on a regular basis to nurture this very important part of what makes you who you are. Think of me like a personal trainer. I will encourage and inspire you while you develop your skills and express yourself through a variety of textile based media.

Private and group lessons or classes are provided in locations around the NYC area, in my space or via webcam. My focus is on providing an entertaining, relaxing and enjoyable experience as you learn a leisure time activity. I am extremely patient and detail oriented. When you let me know what you would like to learn or make, I will guide you through everything from selecting materials to fine tuning your technique. Take a lesson with me to find out why my students love me.

Teaching is a wonderful extension of my work as a professional crochet and knit designer and technical editor. A web search will reveal some of my published work over the last decade. As a craft teacher in the NYC area for over 8 years, I have worked with individuals, groups and classes of all ages and skill levels. Most of my experience focuses on working with older adults and people with special needs. Minors must have a supervising adult present. I do not work with groups of young children.

I have studied the history and mastered the skills to make and teach a vast variety of textile techniques. Please see my experience.

If you are using this site without the assistance of a TL Rep, I recommend the schedule as you go option. I often have openings in my calendar sooner than the site allows. After we make contact, we can choose the best date and time.

*** Lesson Details ***
Please let me know what you would like to learn or make before your lesson so that we may be fully prepared with any materials, tools, equipment, books or handouts. Students are expected to provide all their own tools and materials unless other arrangements are made.

Recommended duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes. A surcharge may be added for travel outside of areas accessible by one MTA fare or expected travel time exceeding 90 minutes.

*** Specialties ***
Textile based crafts including crochet, knitting, embroidery, sewing, patchwork, plastic canvas, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, bobbin lace, historic textile and costume conservation and storage, and more.

I also love to research and develop craft projects for classes or master techniques students would like to learn.

Exactly what I was looking for. My daughter had surgery last week and I wanted her to be able to learn to knit while she's at home for the next ten days. Kim was upbeat and clearly competent. She also went out of her way to help me (a leftie knitter) learn how to help my daughter if she ran into snags. Thank you, Kim!

Kim is great, very specific for my first lesson giving me a lot of information and specifics before we started the knitting part, I found that into wonderful! The lesson for someone who has never picked up needles before was the perfect speed. I have the lessons recorded so I can watch while I practice. Kim if you're reading this, thank you for making feel so comfortable even when I was clumsy 🤗.

I booked Kim for an in-person crotchet lesson and knew right away she was a good fit for me. Our first and second in-person lessons were learning the basics as I have no experience. I just finished my third lesson and I am already working on projects.

Kim is very kind, patient, incredibly knowledgeable, and flexible with booking and selecting projects of interest. She can anticipate your next move and is able to read her students very early on to know where they may struggle and/or have success. I recommend Kim to anyone who has a desire to learn!

Kim was terrific! It was great to go through the basics and actually have someone watch what I was doing. Now I'm not HOPING I'm doing it correctly, i KNOW I'm doing it correctly She's very good with the step-by-step verbals and visuals, and moves at a comfortable pace. Also, I learned a bunch of cool little tips from her. Added bonus: she's a super nice and interesting person; turns out we share many of the same interests, and what I'm looking to develop - sort of a little niche project thing - she's been doing for years. I'll definitely be taking additional lessons from her. Thanks, Kim!

My daughter learned a great deal andorrnimportantly acquired a lot of ease and confidence. We will use her again and I recommend her to anyone.

I went with Kim because of her ratings. I'm so happy I did! This was my first time sewing and after just 1 lesson I know how to use my machine!!! I had trouble with putting a pattern together but Kim was very patient with me and walked me through it. I like that she also took the time before hand to make a sample of the project I wanted to do. I wasn't able to finish my project online with her but she made sure I would be able to finish it with out her. Which I did! Another thing I liked about kim was she did not try to get me to buy more lessons. She didn't even mention it! I was so nervous about the whole online thing but she made me comfortable. I had so much fun and learned so much that I will defiantly be using her again! Thank you kim!!!!!

I really like learning with Kim. I have had some exposure with learning to crochet but very minimal. Somehow when she explains it, it is all coming together and sinking in - I can make sense of things now where I couldn't before. She takes you step by step and is VERY knowledgeable about the process of crocheting. I wasn't sure how I would feel about an online lesson but it is perfect for me. She will show you using large needles and bulky yarn thereby making it easier for you to see and understand. I highly recommend her.

Today was my first class with my teacher Kim. It was great experience learning from her. She helped me in every step in cutting fabric the right way using pattern.
After taking this class i have no doubt that I will be able to learn even with skype session as the teacher knows how to deliver her skills and knowledge even on Web cam.
Also i am not very good at speaking English because I am not native speaker and my mother tongue is different from English but still the teacher was able to make me understand how should I proceed my project of making wash day apron.
She is very nice and has very good communication skills along with the knowledge she has about her subject (Sewing etc)
I will recommend this teacher to others too.

Outstanding, knowledgeable, patient instructor! I LUCKED OUT! She's is the best and I am already, confidently knitting a scarf. I love this class and Kim made all the difference. Her costs are very reasonable and she is very reliable. If u r looking for an outstanding instructor, she's the one!

Kim is very patient and a great teacher. I didn't know how this online learning experience would work but it does work well. With my iPad I can see what she is doing and she can see me while I do it and gives constructive criticism while I work. Mistakes can be corrected promptly before bad habits set in. This has been a great learning experience for me. So glad I found me a good teacher!
