Teaching since:

Hi there! My name is Kevin Yokota. I am a professional drummer/percussionist and educator living in South Pasadena who wants to share my passion for drumming with YOU! I am available for in-home lessons.

I graduated from USC's Thornton School of Music in 2010 with an emphasis in Jazz Drums. While at USC, I studied with drumming masters Peter Erskine and Ndugu Chancler. Since graduating, I have performed/recorded with Sam Amidon, Eric Reed, May Stallings, Inga, Inc. No World, Hi Fi Honeydrops, Bossa Zuzu and many others.

I look forward to guiding my students in their journey as drummers. Lesson plans are customized based on each student's goals. We will focus on a wide variety of skills necessary to become a great drummer- Time, Groove, Technique, Musicality, Sight-Reading, Audition Preparation and Listening.

I look forward to working with you!

Very interesting setup for the INGA recording session!

Standard setup for a pop recording session! Getting nice muted tom sounds with the bandanas on my vintage Ludwigs :)

Kevin is an excellent drummer and improviser: I learned a lot about sound, phrasing, listening and time playing from him. His is also extremely kind and very knowledgeable about drumset, particularly in the jazz style.

Kevin is not only a great upcoming jazz drummer, but he also is a wonderful teacher. He has a unique perspective, and really knows how to relate and speak to kids. He is extremely patient and has good ideas on how to make the instruction time enjoyable and productive.

Kevin is an exceptionally talented drummer and instructor. He's imparted the most important fundamentals in a clear and encouraging way. Most importantly, he makes each lesson a ton of fun. I love every second of my lessons and always come away feeling inspired to practice my butt off during the week. I'd highly recommend him as a teacher for all levels and ages. Super nice guy, too.

Kevin was exceptional at figuring out my strengths and how to further develop them. His lessons send me home with enthusiasm and that propels me to practice with more frequency. I would recommend him for all stages. My favorite part of the lesson is the jam session when I get improvise...I always feel proud of myself for improving but his malleability on the drums reminds me I still have a long way to go.
