I worked as a TA in the Mills College music department, instructing the highest level of the musicianship course series (Fall 2016, 2017).

Musicianship Teaching Assistant

Upward Bound at Mills College in Oakland, CA I was employed as a tutor/TA at the Mills College Upward Bound program. I tutored low-income high school students in algebra and geometry (Summer 2016).

Tutoring

Upward Bound at David Douglas High School, Portland OR I was employed as a tutor at the Upward Bound program at David Douglas High School in Portland, OR. I tutored low-income high schoolers of varying levels, from pre-algebra to AP Calculus (Fall 2013-Spring 2014).

As part of my senior thesis project, I TAed a course in music informatics. This involved working with students on topics including acoustics, Fourier analysis, electronic and computer music practices, and simple coding theory.

Teaching Assistantship, Music Informatics

As a pianist I am trained classically and as an improvisor. I believe in tailoring exercises and repertoire to the individual student. For both my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music, I have focused on serious pedagogy.

Kevin Schwenkler began his study of music on the piano at the age of 8, followed by clarinet and voice in his early adolescence. He has classical, jazz, folk, and pop training on these instruments. Kevin holds a B.A. from Hampshire College, where he studied music- primarily classical singing- and mathematics. During his undergrad, he began to seek and employ a musical pedagogy combining stimulating, consistent practice and the simple joy of living musically. Kevin also holds an M.A. in music composition from Mills College, where he continually concerned himself with pedagogy through his position as a musicianship teaching assistant.
