I started playing music in the fourth grade. My first instrument was the cello. In fifth grade I changed my instrument to the violin and found that it was definately something I wanted to persue. A year later I started on the piano, and unlike the violin, I found that it was easier to learn it on my own. Because of that, my knowledge on the piano has been mostly self taught. I have been playing both instruments going on 16 years, and even though I did play other instruments, nothing took center stage like the piano and violin. Although I have never played in the Boston Philharmonic or London Symphony Orchestra's, nor have written or composed any CD's, doesn't mean I don't have a passion for what I do. To me, music isn't just about playing in a large orchestra or being famous. It is about recognizing the many different styles from cultures all over the world. It is the ability to appreciate the sounds the reverberate across the spectrum, the ability to mix and match in order to create something new, and to think outside the box when it comes to inventing new ideas. To me, music is a form of art (just like dance, drawing and writing), and just like any form of art, there must be a spark of passion behind it, or it becomes meaningless. *** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching music for almost two years and I have experience in musical influences from the baroque, classical, and romantic periods, 20th century and contemporary music, ragtime and blues. My belief is that learning music comes easiest when it is relatable to everyday life. It is relaxing and teaches patience and coordination. It is also a way to release one's inner artist. My lessons will cover topics ranging from learning how to play (beginners), improving your technique, your ear, sight-reading, music theory, and improvisation. It will include the application and utilization of the fundamentals of music as an art, and will incorporate style, technique, and creativity. Lessons will be individualized to encourage and inspire ones self to not only succeed in just music, but to succeed in life. *** Studio Equipment *** Books, computer, keyboard (weighted keys, sustain pedal), violin (student must have their own violin). Students are responsible for purchasing their own books (if the student is young, it is the responsibility of the parents) for their lessons after the first lesson. *** Travel Equipment *** Students must have their own instrument. Students are responsible for purchasing their own books (if the student is young, it is the responsibility of the parents) for their lessons after the first lesson. *** Specialties *** baroque, classical, romantic periods, 20th century, contemporary music, ragtime and blues

I wish I could have continued my lessons. Hopefully I'll be able to continue this in the future, but wanted to say that Kenya is a very kind and patient teacher, and I hope to be able to take lessons from her again when the time comes. I really liked her approach to teaching an old dog like myself.

Students' mother Kenya is a great teacher. She is very encouraging and has a good read on my 8 and 5 yr olds so as to not push too much but is by no means a push over. I like her soft spoken firm style.
