Kenji Luis T.
I grew up speaking English, Portuguese & Japanese in a multilingual family and from a young age developed a strong affinity & penchant for languages. I attended an English-Portuguese Bilingual school through 6th grade and studied Japanese 4 years in high school, along with weekend Japanese school classes. In college I went on to major in International Relations & Diplomacy with a concentration in French studies, also honing my Spanish that I had picked up along the way (with Romance Languages, I have a very easy time of language absorption). I've gone on to work for international companies wherein my language skills have been highly sought after, translating & communicating often in all my language strengths.Show More

Kenji is a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable and has the right amount of patience to encourage learning while keeping things challanging and interesting.
He is good teacher.
Helping my beginner learner and is excellent!
Very patient and professional
I worked with Kenji for a couple of months and he was absolutely fantastic! Always professional and patient, especially with me! I unfortunately had to stop taking lessons, but would love to work with Kenji again. If your looking for a great teacher, look no further.Show More
Kenji was very friendly. He listened to my requests and created a lesson to meet those requests.
Great lesson. Informative and fun
Professional, Positive and fun to work with!
Kenji was super nice, and made the lesson very fun and interesting. He writes down everything on a white board so that you don’t miss anything. Kenji also has a lot of experience with teaching so I didn’t have any problems not understanding anything. All in all Kenji is a amazing teacher and you should definitely give him a go at teaching you!Show More
Kenji was a great French teacher, he was very easy to work with to schedule lessons at a convenient time and he helped me improve my French speaking in advance of a big test.
With today being our first lesson with one another it was great. Kenji took his time to make sure that my per punctuation was correct.
I studied Japanese for a while at university, but I never really found a comfortable study style or pattern. Working through things with Kenji helped me find that style. Lessons with him seem casual and friendly, but have been immensely effective in advancing my Japanese skills.Show More
I have greatly enjoyed my experience with Kenji. He is flexible and patient with the material. I found sessions with him to be extremely helpful.
Kenji is a nice guy and speaks very slowly and clearly. My only misgiving was with error correction. I am not sure if he could not hear me well do to the connection, but I got the feeling he was not correcting all my mistakes when I spoke. I also would have preferred a more structured class, but I probably should have told him that in the beginning of our session. Otherwise he was a nice guy and spoke Portuguese very well.Show More
It was my first lesson, but I really enjoyed it and feel confident about continuing.
The audio didn't work for me, the image was slow, sometimes while he talked it would freeze and he had to repeat or i just couldn't listened what he said. It was completely unproductive.
It was a great first class.
Kenji was very sweet and my first lesson ever.
Kenji was beyond patient, kind, and intelligent. Can't wait for all the lessons to come!
Kenji does a Great job of Teaching on a personal Level, I have a disability with learning languages. he teaches with respect and helps me get past my Huge Learning Curve.
Kenji is a very understanding and kind instructor. I am a coma survivor and lost a lot of what Spanish I had learned. He is helping me to access and telling me ways to learn to speak, as I understand so much more than I thought. I now have a good direction on how to get back some of my skills and to become a fluent speaker some time.Show More
I love having Kenji teaching me to speak and practice more difficult Spanish. He makes me feel like I can do it. He is patient with my limitations in terms of a mild hearing loss. He provides information for me that I am actually able to read almost 70 percent of and understand. He helps me with sentence structure and verbs as we talk in Spanish. He keeps us focused on task with learning. He is the first Spanish teacher and I have had 8 different ones in immersion courses in Mexico, that I feel may really help me to learn. I need to do more on my part, as I have lost a lot of basic vocabulary and verb tenses and that will be my goal...He is a 5 star instructor.....Show More
Kenji is very sweet, patient, and kind. He is a joy to have as an. Instructor......
Very patient and kind. My 7-year old twins look forward to their weekly lessons.

Great first lesson! He's patient, easy to understand, and knows his stuff. Pumped for more lessons
My son really enjoyed his first lesson!
Great first lesson. Thanks!
¡Buena leccion! Tengo ganas de estudiar y aprender :)
Wonderful patient first lesson together!
Having been taking Japanese lessons with Kenji for just under one month, I can confidently say this has already been a fantastic experience. Language learning is no cakewalk, but Kenji has the ability to put students at ease while keeping the lessons focused and productive. Questions are always welcome and you are never left feeling as though you are "on your own." I have elected to take 1 hour courses and would recommend any beginners to do the same. It provides ample time for a mix of review, sample exercises, and new topics.
If you have any hesitation, simply schedule one or two courses. I guarantee you'll be renewing your schedule the second you wrap up your first class.
Best instructor ever.
Kenji is a great instructor. Really enjoy our lessons and am learning quite a bit every time. The time flies by! Highly recommend.
Kenji is very patient and accommodating. I'm a bit obsessed with getting all my crazy questions answered, and Kenji gives me all the information I need. I could never get this degree of detailed instruction from a college class. He's both fun and informative. As a first-time student of Japanese, I give Kenji two thumbs way up!Show More
Kenji has been working with my son for couple months now. Although they meet once a week, I can already see the results. My son has gained confidence and improved his Spanish skills which lead to him graduating with A- as a final grade! He has been a straight B/ B- student ever since he started 6th grade. As a matter of fact, my son is taking French with Kenji as well now! Great teacher, very supportive and encouraging!Show More
Kenji is so kind and helpful. I instantly felt relaxed and excited to learn. I can't wait for many more lessons!
I loved my lesson, I was starting to feel unintelligent for second but Kenji quickly changed the situation into a fun learning experience. Very excited to keep learning.
Very cool dude! Easy going and knowledgeable.
Great patience and excellent pronunciation (from what I can tell!) Looking forward to the next lesson...thanks!
Kenji is a great instructor. He has a way of putting it simple and to the point. I haven't ever been confused by his explanations of any of the grammar and at this point I never expect to. Great teacher!
Great first lesson! Looking forward to the next.
He's a really good teacher and emphasises a lot on pronunciation which is really good for you in the future.
Kenji is awesome! I can't wait for next week! And maybe even the homework.
Have been with Kenji for a few months now. In that time my 7th grade son has gone from an "F" in French to a "B+". He got 100% on a test he took today. Mason loves working with him. Kenji makes the lessons fun and accessible. He also tailors them perfectly to Mason's ability and provides him with worksheets each week by email. He is also very easy to schedule with. I am a teacher myself, so I know quality teaching and Kenji is tops!Show More
I have just had my first lesson, and I enjoyed learning. I appreciate that Kenji is telling me about the differences in accents and helping me correct my pronunciation. Many teachers don't do that! Thanks
Great with beginners. Very supportive.
- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate
Initially I like to evaluate the student's current comprehension level (regardless of years studied) to better select the appropriate starting point. From there, if there is a specific subject matter or course work/syllabus for a class that needs to be followed, I can tailor lessons to fit those needs. Throughout lessons, I like to bring in elements such as cartoons, newspapers, movie clips, etc. to aid in understanding everyday usage & make learning practical and pertinent to the student.
**30 minute lessons are available for students interested in Conversational Spanish practice (for Intermediate/Advanced Only). Please send me a message if you are interested & we can discuss how to arrange through TakeLessons.
