Experienced professional violin teacher of 6 years. Whether you want to pick up violin for the first time or have had lessons before and are looking to rekindle your practice, I am here to help! I have experience teaching all ages (from age 4 to adult) and levels (beginner to advanced). I have training in both Suzuki and traditional methods, and can also incorporate music reading or basic music theory into the lessons, depending on the needs of the student. I hold two degrees in violin performance and currently teach privately and at the college level. Let's get started!

About Kelsey P.

I hold Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance from UNC-Greensboro and Appalachian State University, respectively. I grew up learning the first 8 Suzuki Violin School books, and right after earning my Bachelor's degree, I received training to teach in the Suzuki Method. I began teaching 25 students at the Chapel Hill School of Musical Arts in North Carolina, and have been maintaining a private teaching schedule ever since then. I have taught at the UNCG Summer Music Camp, the ASU Community Music School, and served as a judge for ASTACAP (the American String Teachers Association Certificate Advancement Program). I have also organized and coached a high school string quartet and trio. During my Master's, I began teaching undergraduate college students and found that I really enjoyed it. Since graduating, I have been teaching at ASU as an adjunct professor for 3 years. I teach music minors and non-majors, helping them with their technique and to prepare for their semester-end juries. I also maintain a small studio of private students and host recitals for them to perform at.

Apart from teaching, I have extensive experience performing solo, chamber, and symphony music. I have had the opportunity to attend several high-level summer programs to assist in my own training and performance opportunities, including the Brevard Music Festival, Eastern Music Festival, and UNC International Violin Symposium. I have also been able to perform professionally with many symphonies in North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. I have played with the Greensboro Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Fayetteville Symphony, Durham Symphony, and Johnson City Symphony, to name a few. I currently play as Assistant Concertmaster with the Western Piedmont Symphony in Hickory, NC, and as a first violinist with the Symphony of the Mountains in Kingsport, TN.

My experiences with both performance and teaching have given me a good foundation to help guide students in private violin lessons. I try to help students build good technique, learn and improve their pieces, and answer any questions they may have.
