    About Kelsey C.

Hello! I am a Reading Specialist with a Masters of Education from Lesley University and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I specialize in early literacy skills, phonics, phonemic awareness, and comprehension, and also work with students to improve fluency and vocabulary development. I have been professionally trained as a reading interventionist, working with students one-on-one or in small groups. I differentiate instruction for students of all abilities, and strive to provide my students with the right balance of challenge and support to help them reach their goals as readers. I have a strong passion for reading and literacy learning, and am very excited to pass this enthusiasm to my students! As a published author in poetry anthologies, an online women's health magazine, and author of a successful blog, I also offer writing lessons for children and adults. My background in education and experience writing graduate level research analysis has developed my writing and editing skills, and I am ready to help my students reach their writing goals! Each Reading and Writing student will receive individualized lesson plans guided by their areas of need and goals we set together. Progress will be monitored through reflective lesson plans and regular progress reports. Reading lessons include support in phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, and fluency, and foster love of quality literature and autonomy. In addition to academic tutoring services, I also provide parent coaching, nanny training, learning and play space design, and general consultation services to parents and care givers. I have been working with children and families for 12 years, and feel confident that I can provide a high level of expertise, understanding, and enthusiasm necessary to support you and your family. For Early Childhood teachers, I offer training in curriculum design and space planning to support reading development, with a Reggio Emilia influence. I recently contributed to the development team of an Infant/Toddler curriculum, writing curriculum specializing on cognitive and approaches to learning domains. Finally I offer basic sewing lessons. I have been a hobby seamstress for five years, and enjoy drafting patterns for personal clothing and children's toys. I run a successful sewing blog and Etsy shop, selling to customers over the globe. I am a strong teacher with a diverse background who believes promoting inquiry and critical thinking. I am enthusiastic, hardworking, and flexible, and I look forward to hearing from you!
