- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
For beginners, I usually recommend doing a 30 minute lesson once per week and then increasing the lesson time and/or frequency as they become a stronger player. I use the Rubank Method for Flute as well as Pares Scales for beginning students. Once they have become more advanced I assign more challenging etude and scale books. When the student has a grasp of the instrument, I present solo repertoire and orchestral excerpts tailored for each level. I try to keep each student's goals, ability, age, and interests in mind when choosing music to keep the lessons engaging and fun!
- Teaches students:
- Ages 10+ and special needs
- Teaching since:
- January 2003
I'm a flutist and flute instructor in the North Atlanta area. My home studio is in Acworth (near Woodstock), Georgia where I teach flute lessons. I play principal flute in the Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra and currently serve on the Board of Directors as President.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the idea that you don't have to be perfect, you just have to try. Each one of us has something unique hidden inside waiting to be expressed through music and my job is to draw that out and give you the confidence to share it with the world. With each student I hope to ignite a spark of passion and curiosity for music to carry with you throughout your lifetime.
I have been teaching since 2005 to students of all ages and levels. I currently have students all across the US and have taught online as far away as Hawaii and Italy. Whether your goal is to start a new instrument, gain confidence in your playing, improve your current skills, make first chair in band, perfect a solo, make All-State, win a competition, or audition for college, I will guide you and help you reach your goals.

Kelly is a wonderful teacher. She is very observant and gives terrific instruction. I enjoy her warm personality and always look forward to lessons.
I found Kelly to be a total professional in teaching. Prompt, educated and well versed in the principals of the flute.
She also was competent in the composition I had requested insight on, the Poulenc Sonata for flute, which is not an easy piece to play.
If you are intermediate to early advanced you will not go wrong or left wanting.
Highly recommend for beginner to early advanced level teaching.
It was great first lesson. Looking for many more to come.
On the first lessen I discovered that I was holding my flute wrong the whole time and was playing the high notes completely wrong. This should make a big difference.
Have fun experience with Kelly ... Explains with patience and syncs with my speed of learning .. Enjoying my classes 😊
